Making Spirits Bright

As we approach the holidays, I will surely ramp up the use my White Stampin’ Emboss Powder to create WOW effects on my cards.  I just love to take a stamp with a negative image (when pressed into an ink pad, stamps with negative images gather ink on the background with words or images carved into the stamp).  One of the new stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog, Among the Branches, gives me the perfect images to create this type of look:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  You might miss this product in the Holiday Catalog – it’s quietly tucked in the top, right corner of page 24), but add this embossing folder to your “must have it right now” wishlist.  These dots of snow disperse from the top like snow (or from the bottom like champagne bubbles).  I positioned my piece of Mint Macaron in the middle of the folder to gather some of the gathered dots and some of the more spread out ones.  I don’t work with embossing folders a lot, but you’ll see me use this one a lot this Holiday season.Among the Branches, Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Added Pops of White.  The raised dots weren’t enough for me, but I certainly didn’t want to risk the front of my card by sponging white onto the dots.  As such, I used my White Stampin’ Chalk Marker to brush a little light onto each of these dots.  It didn’t take very long and didn’t leave a huge impact, but it gave me just the right accent I wanted.
  • Color Combination.  I’m in love with Mint Macaron.  This kinda-green, kinda-blue shade is 100% soft and gorgeous.  When paired with deep, rich Cherry Cobbler, you have the perfect foundation for a gorgeous holiday card.
