You are the Gold

From the moment I saw the Brick Wall Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, I knew I wanted to emboss a sheet of Gold Foil.  Gold Foil really takes on an amazing transformation when compressed with an embossing folder.  It may have taken me a couple of months, but the idea has been lingering in the back of my head all this time.  I wasn’t sure if my little experiment would resemble a pile of gold bars or if it would constitute an artistic rendition of the road that takes you to Oz, but I was excited for the result.  Here’s the card I made with this gold brick pattern:

Over the Rainbow, Brick Wall Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Over the Rainbow.  One of the new (and very popular) stamp sets from the 2015 Annual Catalog is Over the Rainbow, a photopolymer stamp set that allows you to build all kinds of colorful images with rainbows, hearts and sunshines.  The sentiments are really great in this set – good luck, the sky’s the limit and you are my sunshine.  Perfect for uplifting and supportive cards.  Here’s a look at this set:

  • Coloring on DSP.  I’ve been using my Stampin’ Write Markers a lot lately.  I went through a period where I barely used them at all, but I’ve embraced them full-force now and enjoy having them back in my life.  I used a long, narrow strip of Basic Black and Whisper White paper from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack – and only colored in the spaces that wouldn’t be covered by the brick wall (I want to make sure my inks last as long as possible).  I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Cucumber Crush, Marina Mist and Rich Razzleberry.Add Color to Black and Wite Designer Series Paper with Stampin' Write Markers
  • Coordinating Envelope Liner.  To create an envelope that “goes” but doesn’t “match,” I cropped an envelope liner with the Gold piece of the Designer Series Paper Stack in the same pattern (the Neutrals stack contains gold and silver).  It coordinates with both the pattern and the color of the gold bricks.  Yippee!Over the Rainbow, Brick Wall Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  15. Good Morning Brian:

When I first looked at this card I thought you had taken very thin strips of card stock and glued them to a piece of black. I like to kind of study the card before reading your description so when I read that you had colored in the stripes with markers I had to do a double take. What a great job you did. I was all set to ask you how you got those strips so perfectly spaced! LOL Great card as always Brian. Thanks so much for sharing. Hugs,
