You’re So Sweet for FMS201

Narelle Farrugia is hosting this week’s challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches.  After last week’s super-fun celebration for FMS’s 200th challenge, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get back to work.  🙂  I love the flexibility of this week’s sketch – it’s one that everyone can (and should) play along with.  It inspired me to pair some papers from the Holiday Catalog with a sentiment and shapes from the Annual Catalog.  What fun!  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Narelle’s challenge that inspired my card:FMS201

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Halloween Mask.  This sentiment is from the Annual Catalog stamp set You’re So Sweet.  While this stamp includes fashionable brackets around the words, I wanted to remove them to only showcase the sentiment, so I masked them.  I simply applied tape over the clean stamp in the areas I did not want to stamp on my paper, inked the stamp, removed the tape and then stamped it onto the Very Vanilla paper.  Voila!  If you missed my video that shows masking, check it out here.

  • Patterns.  Both pieces of Designer Series Paper from Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper feature fun patterns with Tangelo Twist and Very Vanilla.  There are so many patterns to choose from, but I settled on these because one is so bold, while the other is so detailed.  If you want to learn more about mixing patterns, you can see my video here.  I also played with the stripes in the papers to make sure one is up-and-down while the other is side-to-side.  Interesting…
  • Sweet Color Combination.  Basic Black and Tangelo Twist make for a wonderful pairing at Halloween.  The addition of a teeny amount of Rich Razzleberry brightens the spooky combo a bit to make this project more appealing for small children (or adults who like Rich Razzleberry).  I pulled these colors from my Classic Color Combinations for Halloween Chart that you can see here.Stampin' Up! 4. I have enjoyed reading your postings going back to the beginning since I discovered your site a couple of weeks ago. It was especially fun to see the behind the scenes pictures of Stampin Up Company.

Question: Could you tell us what particular Scotch tape item you use for masking. They make several different varieties.

    Thanks.

    • Thanks, LeNora! I’m so glad you are enjoying my posts – I love sharing them. I used plain tape for the video I share (any tape will work for masking directly on the stamp as long as the tape doesn’t leave a residue). In my craft room, I mostly use blue painter’s tape – it’s easier for me to grab when I need it. 🙂
