I don’t always create cards with simple layering, but there’s always a good reason when I do. The card I created for this week’s Cay You Case It Sketch Challenge didn’t need a lot of fancy layers in the background. The adorable image on the top panel is cute enough to support a plain, Crumb Cake card base. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Santa’s Gifts. Santa’s Gifts is an adorable collection of stamps found in the Annual Catalog. The Santa, the tree, the bird, the reindeer – all adorable. I couldn’t help but to position this adorably scarfed bird on the friendly reindeer’s nose. I stamped both images (it was so easy to position everything because this is a photopolymer stamp set) on the Whisper White panel. I stamped the deer again on Crumb Cake and Real Red, and I stamped the bird again on Soft Sky and Real Red. I snipped out the images I wanted from each piece of cardstock and then glued them down on the white panel. Super simple snipping.
- Sentiment Choice. Between the current selections of sets, there are so many sentiments to choose from for this card. I wanted to steer away from the “Merry Christmas” saying (although they would work well here) and move toward a friendly friend sentiment. This “hello, my friend” from Tap Tap Tap was just what I wanted – petite and adorable. The typewriter font makes my heart go pitter-patter.
- Colors. I chose to create this panel with this patterned paper from Into the Woods Designer Series Paper. I tried to add in some texture or color, but it really didn’t need a thing. The Mossy Meadow dots work so well with the neutral Crumb Cake, but what red to use? What red to use? I referred to my chart that showcases the reds and greens of Christmas (see it here) to see that Real Red would make an excellent accent to this deep green.
