Jolly Holly for Merry Monday

When Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Holiday Catalog launched last week, I shared my Five Favorite items (if you missed that list, you can check it out here).  My favorite pick for Christmas is the Holly Jolly Greetings Bundle – the perfect combination of Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set and the Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies.  And – STOP THE PRESSES – I used Glimmer Paper to combine the two.  Here’s my card for the Merry Monday’s Christmas Card Challenge:

And here’s the banner for the Merry Monday challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • I Used Glimmer Paper.  I warned you already.  I employed Red Glimmer Paper for this project.  When I returned from the far reaches of the Fungeon (where I carefully store all Glimmer Paper and glitter – for my own protection), I carefully cropped a piece to run through the Big Shot with this Thinlits die.  It worked perfectly – I was so excited by the glittery, shiny outcome that I even used the paper to create some of the background berries.  What was I thinking that day?  Worry not – this experience has not changed me into someone I’m not.  The scraps of glimmer paper were returned to the corner, and the card was immediately tucked inside a clear envelope.  🙂Holly Jolly Greetings, Christmas Greetings Thinlits, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MM170
  • Cupcakes for Christmas.  While I had my Red Glimmer Paper out, I used the Cupcake Builder punch to punch out several small circles.  They fit perfectly over the berries in this design.  Rather than cover the paper with glimmery berries, I covered them selectively.  I squinted to determine which berries would be covered – allowing me perspective to find a balance.
  • White Space Offset.  I love this watercolored design on the Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper.  While the holly is both perfect for this Merry Monday challenge and for the holiday it celebrates, the pure mass of it can be overwhelming on the card.  That’s why I made sure to leave so much white space on the circle that houses the sentiment.  The borders around the circle (which also coordinate with the borders around the base) also help to tame the busy-ness of they paper.

Here’s a fun video from Stampin’ Up! that shares the making of this beautiful Designer Series Paper:

Stamp Sets:  Holly Jolly Greetings  Papers:  Mossy Meadow, Real Red, Whisper White, Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper, Red Glimmer Paper  Inks:  Mossy Meadow  Accessories:  Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies, Circles Collection Framelits, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Cupcake Builder punch, fine-tip glue pen, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to Merry Monday to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Brian
