Big News for GDP003

What a couple of wonderful weeks we’ve had at the Global Design Project!  I couldn’t be happier to participate with this talented group of papercrafters, and we’ve had a wonderful response to the challenges.  Have you been playing along?  Great!  It’s just one of the reasons I like you so much.  This week, the GDP is challenging us with a theme – Baby.   Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Big News, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP003

And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s Global Design Project theme that inspired my card:

GDP-003

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Careful Layering.  I’ve shown this card to several people, and they’ve all asked, “How did you do this?”  It’s easy!  To create this seamless look, I stamped the sentiment in Archival Basic Black ink on Soft Sky cardstock.  I stamped the same sentiment on So Saffron and cropped it with the baby onesie from Baby’s First Framelits.  I then glued the onesie on top of the sentiment, carefully aligning the words on the onesie with the words on the base panel. Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue gives you enough “wiggle room” to slide the image around a bit before gluing it in place.
  • Versatile Set.  A lot of my customers have told me they don’t have any baby-themed stamp sets.  If they don’t have a need for baby sets, then why buy them?  Big News is a stamp set, though, that gives you lots of great occasions (including baby) that doesn’t tie you don’t to just one.  This set has wedding, birthday, baby and all-around-awesomeness.  If you’ve passed over this stamp set, you may like to give it another look-see.  🙂

  • Simple Layout.  I don’t think a card has to have a lot of elements to be striking and wonderful.  This card is designed with a super-simple layout – there’s essentially a skinny, long panel on the front of the card base – and not much else.  Sure the words are big and bold, and the baby onesie brings heaps of adorableness, but I intentionally kept from adding new stuff to clutter up the adorable image.  Simple is better here – as far as I’m concerned – and I had to fight myself to not do anything else to the card.

  7. Yes, I love that stamp set too. Your card is adorable. Gotta get to my crazy room and get working’ on a baby card!

  8. I have a difficult time with layering that doesn’t have the exact same space around each edge of the card stock base. I love that the top and bottom of the card base card stock is wider than the sides. It looks great to me. Now I have to step out of my comfort zone and try to do the same on a card. Thanks Brian. Every once in a while I guess I need a boot in the butt to make me try something new. LOL

  9. Awwwwww, so cute and sweet Brian, your good at baby cards !!!!!
