Dear Friend – My Simple Card from Founder’s Circle

Yesterday I shared one of the cards I made with my new goodies from Founder’s Circle.  The Mint Macaron balloons on the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper made quite a festive backdrop for the card.  What fun!  Here’s the second card I made with this beautiful paper – a quick and simple card that showcases the paper perfectly:

Birthday Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Bold Panel.  This panel of banners and hearts from the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper isn’t a pattern I would normally be drawn to.  The banners aren’t designed in perfect lines and aren’t event spaced apart, so the Type A accountant in me doesn’t find them immediately appealing.  Still, there was something appealing about them, and I was excited by the challenge.  By showcasing this panel of printed paper on a white panel on a white card base, the panel is front-and-center on this project.  The sentiment and flower are a focal point, but the panel of paper is the star.
  • Build a Bridge.  So, we’ve established that the paper is the star of this card.  When I added the sentiment, I thought I’d be done.  Nope.  A little squint test, and I knew the card needed a little something else – something to bridge the large panel and the simple sentiment.  With the limited supplies on hand for our Founder’s Circle make-and-takes, I grabbed the Petite Petals punch and cropped a simple flower with Watermelon Wonder paper.  The flower links the Designer Series Paper panel with the sentiment perfectly.
  • Color Combination.  How pretty are these colors together?  Simple but so effective.  I’ve really grown to love Mossy Meadow and would really hate to see it go away when the new catalog is released next year.  If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! The new paper really is gorgeous, but I love what you have done with it too, Brian, both today and yesterday … love that simplicity that stands on it’s own so beautifully! You have such a great eye!

  8. Whew!! That’s me taking a big breath as I pick myself off the floor. ? This is just one perfect card. I am already in love with this new paper and I haven’t seen it yet. Between yesterday’s card and this one, I can hardly wait. I love how you balance everything out and explain how to do it. Beautiful!

  9. Hi Brian:

I’m with you on the unevenness of the lines on this paper. My kids tell me I am OCD! LOL Anyway, I think this card goes from simple to gorgeous because of your amazing layering. The layers really pull all of the elements together. You are definitely the king of layering and I try to keep your layering techniques in mind when I am making cards but sometimes I forget and find myself wondering what is missing from my card and then the light bulb goes off in my head and I think “Brian’s layering!”. Of course that makes all the difference. You are amazing Brian.

  16. Beautiful card, Brian. You did a great job with the color choices and adding the little flower made the sentiment stand out, but as you said the DSP is the star. Very pretty yet simple.
