Thinking of You at Christmas for GDP004

It’s rare that I would tackle an online challenge twice, but that’s just what I’ve done today.  Yippee!  I was so excited about the “case the designer” challenge at the Global Design Project, that I’ve made another projects that’s inspired by Louise Sharp’s amazing card.  Yesterday’s project was my Design Team project (see it here), and today’s is just a fun way to play along (and to remind you of the great challenge over at the GDP site).  Here’s my card:

Wondrous Wreath, White Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP004And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP-004

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Black Wreath – Take Two.  Yesterday I made a Halloween “burst” with this black wreath.  Today, I aimed for a classy, yet subdued wreath that’s fit for Christmastime.  Surely you wouldn’t hang a black wreath on your door at Christmas (I get it), but there’s something beautiful about it here, don’t you think?  The additional elements on this card (and the one I shared yesterday) define how we see this beautiful wreath image.
  • Neutral Landscape.  I’m in love with Louise’s Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla and Gold card – these neutrals are such a beautiful way to showcase this wreath.  With Smoky Slate, Whisper White and Basic Black as my platform, I tried to create a similar (but different) neutral landscape.  Every bit of me wanted to make the wreath green, but inspiration from Louise’s project helped me to think outside the box a bit.
  • Pop of Red.  What’s Basic Black and White and Smoky Slate with a little pop of Real Red?  This card.  The red berries and banner really bring the entire card together, offering a little lightness in a field of dark.  I tried to make a Smoky Slate banner (the words showed up better on the lighter banner), but the card really needed the red.  It helped to balance out all the dark beauty of the wreath.

Stamp Sets:  Wondrous Wreath, White Christmas  Papers:  Smoky Slate, Basic Black, Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (Smoky Slate), Real Red  Inks:  Archival Basic Black  Accessories:  Cupcake Builder punch, Hexagon punch (for banner tips), Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to The Global Design Project to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
