Trick AND Treat for InKing Royalty Blog Hop

InKing Royalty Blog HopWelcome to InKing Royalty’s September Blog Hop.  We are helping to prepare you for October with super-fun Tricks OR Treats.  Our projects center around fun techniques (tricks) or creative ways to package up Halloween goodies (treats).  In some cases, you might get BOTH!  What fun!  After you read my post, I  hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I’m excited to share that Lydia Fiedler is hopping along with us this month.  While Lydia is not a part of my Stampin’ Up! team, she is a constant source of inspiration and amusement for my team members and me.  Lydia’s blog, Understand Blue, is filled with witty conversation (which I love) and an artist’s mind (which I admire).  She’s, quite simply, amazing.  We are so happy to have Lydia in this month’s hop.

That’s a Wrap!

As I prepared for this fun Blog Hop, I searched the candy shelves at our local Target.  What can I wrap up?  What would make a spooky, scary presentation?  I looked at eyeball gumballs, gummy worms and all sorts of ghoulish goodies.  What caught my eye, though, were these fun candy bars – with Candy Corn, Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Spice flavors.  What fun!  Who wants “fun size” candy bars when you can have these?  🙂

InKing Royalty Blog Hop - Tricks or Treats

TREAT:  While still shopping in the store, I decided exactly how I would be wrapping these candy bars.  Here’s how I dressed up these delightful candy bars:

  • I tucked the candy bars in a Tag a Bag Kraft Gift Bag – while the bags are a perfect length for the candy bars, they are almost twice the width of the candy bars.  That was no challenge for me!  I wrapped the empty half of the bag around the back of the candy bar (it folded almost exactly in half) and used Tear & Tape to secure it behind. Quick and easy!
  • I wrapped Designer Series Paper Stack papers around the bars (5″ along the length of the bag).  I created an additional belly band with two strips of cardstock – one at 1-1/2″ long and one at 3/4″ long.  The width will depend on the candy bars you use.
  • I tied each with Linen Thread and added a cute tag stamped with sentiments from the Sweet Hauntings stamp set and cropped with the Extra Large Oval punch.

TRICK:  If you plan to wrap paper around an object (like a candy bar) and you want to avoid hideous creases in the paper, prep the paper with a bone folder by rubbing the bone folder along the paper over and over until the paper begins to curl.  That breaks down the filaments in the paper so that you don’t end up with the jagged edges.  You’re welcome.  🙂

  12. Such a great idea, Brian. I like the variety with all the Designer Series Papers. I think I just may have to do this with my leftover paper.

  13. Not scary at all….just very fun and appropriate!

  14. I LOVED this Blog Hop and hope that you will not stop doing them…for any reason! You have some incredibly creative people in your crew! I was though disappointed that I was unable to leave a comment on the bogs for Lisa and Shawn….please don’t send me to FB or another location – I like to comment directly on their blogs. This was my only disappointment!

  15. Super cute, Brian! I love the tip about curling the paper so it doesn’t crease hideously–it does make my OCD flare up when that happens:)! I need to go to Target and get some of those yummy looking candy bars–especially the caramel apple–

  16. So cute and really great to see Lydia hanging out on StampwithBrian.com. She’s a busy lady as the Hope You Can Cling To challenges start tomorrow and she’s the awesome hostess.
