Glad Tidings at Christmas

I love when a combination of Stampin’ Up! colors speaks to me.  There are three patterns in the Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper pack that combine Mossy Meadow, Soft Sky and Whisper White – and I love all three of them.  I had a crazy thought to combine all three patterns on a single card for this week’s Fab Friday sketch challenge – and I think it worked.  Here’s my card:

And here’s Mindy Backes’ sketch for FabFri74 that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Three Patterns of Season of Cheer.  That’s right!  There are three patterns from Season of Cheer represented on this card – the beautiful berries, the watercolor stripes and the field of snowy Christmas Trees.  You can see the berries on the far left with the watercolored stripes on the flip side of that pattern.  The simple tree featured in the punched circle was “grabbed” from the page on the far right.  What beautiful patterns – many that can be used throughout the rest of the year!

  • Blanket of White.  Sometimes Whisper White saves everything.  I was struggling with how to mount this card – I didn’t want to introduce new colors but stubbornly wanted to keep my thin borders around the panels.  I played with several variations before deciding that a white panel in the background would give the right platform for the Season of Cheer panels to pop.  It was a simple change that made this card work.
  • Gorgeous Wintertime Colors.  This gorgeous Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper uses lots of beautiful colors to convey Christmastime and winter cheer.  These three pieces of the paper incorporate Soft Sky, which is a GORGEOUS shade for the holiday.  The combination of this soft blue with Mossy Meadow and Whisper White is magical to me.Stampin' Up! 1. Interesting color combinations. Fresh and light colors. Will try to give this combo a try.

  2. You are the master of showcasing DSP. Not only have you highlighted one, but three! A beautiful, wintery, christmas card. xo

  3. Great card, Brian. How creative of you to find a way to use 3 different DSPs on one card. I like how you skewed the layers so they didn’t line up. Nice design and I think the Soft Sky is one of my new favorite colors for Christmas cards.

  4. This mastered the sketch! Love the thin birders on the white backdrop.

  5. P.s. The 3 enamel dots add the perfect balance!

  11. Hi Brian – When I saw your card this morning I actually tilted my head to the left! That got me laughing. It was kind of like when you make a left or right turn while driving and lean in that direction! Thanks for starting my day with both a beautiful card and a good laugh. Hugs.

Be still my heart, this is gorgeous! Sorry, I just downed a Diet Coke and the caffeine has it racing as well as a quick jaunt to check on the dog downstairs! At first I just looked and thought well, I am not sure. But, then a careful look and reading of your post made me smile – I love it! This is one cool piece of art! You totally amaze me with your talent! Have sun this weekend!
