World Card Making Day: Part 1

As you may already know, Pam Morris and I pulled off our third annual World Card Making Day event this past weekend.  We are still on Cloud Nine about the way the entire weekend played out – we couldn’t have asked for better support, assistance and circumstances that made the weekend so very successful. We are thrilled to have found so many people who wanted to spend the weekend with us – we found 25 the first year, 50 the second year and 100 this year.  What a blast!

Today I want to share a couple of fun pictures from the first half of our day.

Pam and BrianFrom the stage, this is what Pam and I could see – and this doesn’t even show it all.

roomOn Saturday, I shared my Tacky Tag nametag with you – I have to admit we had a lot of fun with our Tacky Tag Parade.  While I went for a “too large and overly-colorful” appeal with my tag (you can see that post here), there were flashing lights, piles of accessories and lots of glitter.  That’s right – glitter – lots and lots of it.  In case you want a little bit more of the Tacky Tags, here are the five finalists, chosen by an anonymous judge:

Tacky Tag winners You can’t see the tags very well in this photo, but they were all awesome – in a very, very terrible way.  The winner of our super-fun contest was Jackie Beers.  Points were deducted for adequate color coordination, but the ginormous arch with hideous, flashing lights and bold letters won out in this contest.  Just awful!

Jackie Beers, Tacky Tag winnerThe morning was filled to the brim with fun games – who doesn’t love a good paper crafting game? – and incredible presentations from some really special demonstrators.  Our opening presentations were divided into the Fall holidays.

Candy Ford, a member of my InKing Royalty team, shared several amazing suggestions for using our ribbons and accessories to package delicious treats for Halloween.  Little gift bags, tags around glass canisters – Candy showed up with LOTS of candy.  She insisted that the Candy needed to go home with people, so a couple of stampers charged the stage to retrieve their selections.  Candy created quite a rush (literally) when she showed a wrap around a jar of butter creams.  Those ladies wanted their butter creams.

Candy FordDuring her presentation, Candy showed some awesome ways to decorate for Halloween (she’s an expert), shared ways to use some of the leftovers from our Halloween kits and shared some great techniques for great projects.  When Candy created an adorable tag using the Joseph’s Coat technique, the crowd went wild.  What an amazing presenter!  If you’d like to see more of Candy’s awesome work, you can check it out on her Stamp Candy blog.

Amy Whelan, also a member of my InKing Royalty team, offered us an amazing presentation of several ways to showcase Lighthearted Leaves and the Leaflets Framelits.  With a clean sensibility for card making and an easy presentation style, Amy wowed us with her cards and great techniques.  One of Amy’s projects is a wonderful coloring kit with small cards from Lighthearted Leaves and a set of small coloring pencils.  A crowd favorite!

If you aren’t already following Amy Whelan, why not?  Her work is amazing!  You can see this project (and more of her work) on her Amy’s Inklings blog.

The day would not have been the same without my good friend Linda Heller and her husband, Matt.  When I mentioned our World Card Making Day event to Linda earlier this summer, she asked if we’d need any help with the audio/visual.  Linda hosts many large events, so she and Matt own a lot of the equipment we’d be renting for our event.  I couldn’t NOT let her help, so I happily accepted her gracious offer.  Can’t imagine where we would have been without their help.  Such awesome people.

Linda sat with each of my presenters to help them with their presentation materials – it really helped to keep the presenters calm.  When it was Linda’s turn to present, I was her assistant.  I’m not sure if I helped or hindered (I can be a distracting sidekick…), but I was there by her side.  🙂

Linda HellerLinda shared so many wonderful projects with the Embellished Ornaments bundle – amazing!  While others were able to see the projects on the big screen, I was thrilled to have a front row seat for her presentation.  She’s really quite amazing.  You can see more of her work on her blog at Where the Rubber Hits the Road.

Linda Callahan is also a really great friend of mine – and I was excited when she agreed to chat with us about her rules for making Clean and Simple cards.  Linda, by the way, is a master of Clean and Simple.  She showed up with piles of examples and offered great tips for keeping cards “easy on the eyes and brain”.  Linda’s got such an easy style.  I love her projects – and really enjoy listening to her talk.  You can follow Linda and her clean projects on her StampinSeasons blog.

The morning was filled with great presentations – couldn’t have been more inspiring and exciting.  We had some fun games and giveaways during the morning, too.

I’ll be back tomorrow to share more pictures from our amazing day.  I’ll share some pictures from lunch and the afternoon.  What fun!

Thanks for stopping by today!
