Go Wild on Your Birthday for GDP006

The Global Design Project is hosting a super-fun sketch challenge this week.  Not only has Louise Sharp created a fun graphic design, but she’s told us just where our sentiment should be.  I don’t always follow the rules (you know me better than that), but I followed this sketch pretty closely.  Are you proud of me for staying inside the [really wavy Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack] lines?  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Amazing Birthday, Endless Birthday Wishes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP006And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP-006Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Go Wild.  I created this card with two coordinating, striped papers from the Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack.  The black stripes gave me a perfect diagonal for my slanted edge – this page is met with a matting of Whisper White that pops out from underneath in the bottom, right corner.  If you weren’t looking for it, you might have missed that the band (with the sentiment) is a coordinating, striped paper in Tip Top Taupe.  It was so easy to line up my “happy”s along this band – because the band is lined and because photopolymer stamps are awesome like that.

  • Build-a-Circle.  This black-and-white birthday cake really pops against the striped background, don’t you think?  I further accessorized it with balanced circular borders.  The image is stamped in Archival Basic Black on Whisper White and cropped with a 1-1/4″ Circle punch.  That’s bordered with a 1-3/8″ circle on Basic Black and a 1-3/4″ circle on Tip Top Taupe.  These borders help to separate the cake from the busy patterns on the card front and also mimic the borders I’ve created on the outside of the card.
  • Classy Color Combination.  This color combination is just beautiful – thank you, Stampin’ Up!.  While the card might read “masculine” with its muted neutrals, I’d argue it’s just as suitable for a woman.  The combination is classy and classic – you really can’t go wrong with these three colors.  If you like this color combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 10. Brian – I AM so proud of you! Nice to know you have the discipline to “stay in the lines”. LOL I do think having the lower right corner remain plain white really gives a lot of emphasis to the striped area. Fabulous job but hey, it’s a Brian King card so of course it’s perfect, just like Brian King!
