I Think You’re Great for FabFri75

This week’s Fab Friday Color Challenge – Basic Black, Tangelo Twist and Bermuda Bay – offers the perfect foundation for a super-fun Halloween card.  With lots of amazing Halloween inspiration at my fingertips, though, I opted to turn these colors into a fun and flirty “I like you” card.  Here’s my card for FabFri75:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Fun Paper.  I knew from the start that I didn’t want to make a Halloween card for this color challenge.  That said, it all started with this piece of Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper.  The imperfect, charming Very Vanilla circles were the start of this quirky, somewhat unusual card.  I love their playfulness and colored a strip of them in Tangelo and alternated Bermuda Bay on the other two strips.  You already know how much I love to color on black-and-white paper, so you shouldn’t be surprised by this pairing of paper and ink.  🙂

  • Funky Flower.  Do you recognize the funky flower showcased behind the sentiment in this project?  While I could have used the perfectly circular Scallop Circle punch, I wanted something different.  Inspired by the odd-shaped circles from the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper, I wanted a fun and playful backdrop for this super-inspiring sentiment.  I found it in the Flower Fair Framelits (it’s the largest shape in the top, left corner) – just what I needed.

  • Simple Layout.  A strip of paper on a square of paper with a sentiment on top.  That’s all you need to create a perfectly simple layout.  I moved these three shapes all over the card front, played with the sizes of the panels and changed the orientation of the card before deciding on this layout.  I allowed the canvases of color take their space on the card – big panel of Tangelo Twist, big chunk of Bermuda Bay, big strip of Basic Black.  Each has their day in the sun with this layout.

Stamp Sets:  I Think You’re Great  Papers:  Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper, Tangelo Twist, Bermuda Bay, Very Vanilla  Inks:  Bermuda Bay, Stampin’ Write Markers (Tangelo Twist, Bermuda Bay)  Accessories:  Flower Fair Framelits, Circles Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Fab Friday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
