Hogs & Kisses for GDP007

I love when a challenge takes me out of my comfort zone and forces me to create something I, otherwise, wouldn’t have created.  I REALLY love when that same challenge ends with a project that makes me smile.  That was how my Theme Challenge for this week’s Global Design Project challenge ended – with a big honkin’ smile.  The Farm Theme is not something I would have ever tackled – it’s just not my wheelhouse – but the Barnyard Babies stamp set has been sitting on my shelf for months, begging me to use it.  This challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to break it out!

Here’s my card for this week’s Global Design Project theme challenge:

Barnyard Babies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP007And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP-007Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Barnyard Babies.  Let’s take a collective sigh at how adorable the Baryard Babies stamp set it.  Why has it taken me so long to use?  This set is perfect for almost every holiday – baby celebrations, congratulations, birthdays – there’s even an adorable sheep with a Santa hat and coordinating “fleece navidad” sentiment.  I mean, really.  Could the pig and sheep and duck and chick and horse and cow and goat be any more adorable?  Just check out all the fun sayings and images that coordinate with these adorable farm animals (you can click on the picture below to see the images in my online store):

  • Highlighted Piglet.  From the inception of this card, I knew I wanted to highlight one piglet in a line of other piglets.  I mean, seriously – this little piggie is cute.  I stamped a line pigs in Archival Basic Gray along the strip of Basic gray and stamped another on Whisper White and another on Pink Pirouette.  I snipped the Pink Pirouette piggie (cutting off its tail) and glued it over the Whisper White piggie (his tail blends right in with the pink ones).  The matting around the highlighted piglet really helps to showcase his adorableness along this slanted panel.Barnyard Babies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP007
  • Sweet Color Inspiration.  There are two soft pinks in the Stampin’ Up! color families.  Pink Pirouette has a gray hue to it so it pairs perfectly with grays and blacks.  Blushing Bride has a bit more brown in it, so it looks amazing with dark and soft browns.  If you like this combination of Pink Pirouette and Basic Gray, please feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 2. Good the stamp sets are on sale this weekend, now I NEED the Barnyard Babies stamp set. Love your design and color combination. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. AWWWW….so cute ! I think this is the first time I have seen anybody show this set on a card !! I was looking at it last night while looking through the catty (for the sale) and it must be ESP because I thought these cuties would make adorable cards . Also thank you for clarifying the difference (grey/brown ) of the pinks !! I never really compared them that way .

  4. That piggy is TOTALLY adorable! I am so glad that you being out of your comfort zone resulted in this Brian.

  5. I love how one piggy gets the stage! Darling!

  6. Awwww!! this is just so darling, so cute, I love this card. This piggy is just so adorable, it reminds me of the movie ”Babe”, have you seen it? if not, rent it, get a bowl of pop corn and get ready to get an overdose of cuteness.
    Thank you for sharing.

  7. Brian, this little piggy is absolutely adorable! Love your card!

  8. Chris R. from Iowa

Thanks the for tip on the colors of the pinks too! Since I am from Iowa, I have pig stamps! When we lived in Houston, my boss – a female doctor decided since I was from Iowa I would love pigs so whenever she traveled she would bring back a pig for me! When we moved back to Iowa I left some of them behind for others to remember me by! I have some very expensive pig ornaments too she gave me.

Anyway, loved the card. I just might have to get out my button buddies set and make a pig card too!

P.S. I do not live on a farm and don’t like visiting my husband’s aunt and uncle’s farm as their pigs chase me!

  9. Very cute card! Love the slanted banner across the center. Clever way to showcase the images.

  10. Such an adorable card. I love all the layers and the adorable frame you made for the piggy. It reminds me of a 1st place ribbon, which is appropriate as that little piggy stood out from the crowd. Cute.

  11. Thanks for using this stamp set. It is so cute and having grown up on a farm I had to purchase it. Is there a way to see what others on your team did with the farm idea?

    • Connie – thanks! You can click on the link above (under the product pictures) or on the “farm” banner with the challenge information. Prepare to be wowed – these are GREAT projects! 🙂

  17. Just adorable! I love the pink & gray pairing, as well as the slanted centerpiece and pigs in succession. Once again, you knocked it out of the ballpark…er, I mean, out of the pasture…:-)

  18. I really DO live on a farm on the eastern plains of New Mexico! We raise alpacas, sheep, goats, and Great Pyrenees dogs to guard the animals. My dad raised pigs as I grew up. At one point we had over 100 baby pigs! Love ’em! Thank you Brian for being so brave and featuring this darling little thing. I had overlooked this set. Going to remedy that. I enjoy your blog very much.

  19. CUTE card! Now I need to add that stamp set to my order!

  20. I love it like a pig loves not being bacon.

  21. I’m not really a fan of all the animal stamps out now, but you make such cute cards, I’m beginning to get the urge to get some. Really cute card today, Brian. I love the polka dots and all the elements.
