Good Things for FMS211

In a world that’s filled with negative news and badly-behaved people, it’s nice to remember that good things are still happening every day.  With today’s project, I throw my hands in the air and dance away the negative.  So, maybe this doesn’t represent ME dancing, but you get the idea.  🙂

Karren Johnson is hosting a fun sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week.  I’m not very skilled the the collage style of design – layering items on top of each other in a beautiful clump.  My attempts at a beautiful clump always end up looking like a ridiculous glob of things.  This sketch makes it easier for me – two objects, a banner and an accent.  That certainly narrows things down a bit for me.  Here’s the card I made for Karren’s challenge:

Sparkly Season, You've Got This, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS211

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:FMS211Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Texture without Watercoloring.  I used the watercolored Soft Suede stripes from English Garden Designer Series Paper to create a textured background for this card.  The textured circle and the ballerina’s dress are created from another patterned page from English Garden.  I cropped one of the large flowers with Circles Collection Framelits and stamped the ballerina on another flower.  I sniped out her dress and glued it right on top of the image I had stamped and snipped on Thick Whisper White.  The flowers gave me a wonderful texture without a lot of work.Create texture on a stamped image by stamping on a printed paper and snipping out, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Perfect Fit.  I wanted a sentiment that would perfectly house my sweet ballerina.  Instinctively, I went right to You’ve Got This – she nestles perfectly inside the font, don’t you think?  Not only did that help me to keep with the elements of the sketch challenge, but it allowed the images to work seamlessly together.  The ballerina, by the way, is from Sparkly Season, a stamp set in the 2015 Holiday Catalog – I pulled her right out of the nutcracker to make this for-all-seasons card.

  • Such Sweet Colors.  You might already know that I’m a big fan of pairing Blushing Bride with any shade of brown.  The pink shade has so much brown in it already, so it’s a match made in heaven.  For today’s card, I paired Blushing Bride with Soft Suede and Whisper White.  The brown enriches the pink, and the pink lightens the brown.  So Sweet!Stampin' Up!
