Embellished Ornaments for GDP011

Can you believe we are already on our ELEVENTH challenge for Global Design Project?  If you haven’t been popping over to check out the projects by our Design Team or challenge participants, you are missing out.  What an amazing collection of designs by talented artists!

This week’s Challenge is a Theme Challenge – Christmas!  I’ve been knee-deep in Christmas cards, so this challenge comes at a perfect time.  Here’s my card for this week’s Global Design Project Christmas Theme Challenge:

Embellished Ornaments, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP011, Christmas card

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP-011

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snipping Goodness.  You already know I love to snip out little pieces of paper.  I might not want to do that for mass-produced cards, but I enjoy it on a one-off basis.  The gorgeous holly from Embellished Ornaments screamed for me to snip it out – and I didn’t want to disappoint.  I allowed the holly to run off the edge of this small Very Vanilla panel so that the left-most piece of holly could hang over the edge a bit.  What an easy way to add some dimension!Embellished Ornaments, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP011, Christmas card
  • Luscious Layers.  Including the layer of snipping and the three bands on top of the Basic Black and Very Vanilla piece of Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper, this card is eleven layers of beautiful paper.  Eleven – in honor of the eleventh challenge from the Global Design Project.  OK, I admit I didn’t plan that, but it works out wonderfully.  I placed the top two panels (and their Real Red frames) right and down from center, allowing the diagonal bands to shine a bit.
  • Gorgeous Depth of Color.  I don’t usually think of Basic Black as a great color for Christmas, but wouldn’t you agree that it looks really elegant here?  It all started with the holly (just made sense to stamp it in Basic Black) and extended to the sentiment.  After struggling with different papers for the layer between the base the sentiment, I decided that this Basic Black and Very Vanilla piece would be a great addition to my Christmas colors.Stampin' Up!
