Magic of the Season for GDP013

Last week’s “CASE the Designer” challenge was such a blast for me – the projects you created with inspiration from my penguin card were over-the-top, and I loved every one of them.  You all had such nice things to share, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

This week’s Color Challenge for the Global Design Project is perfect for this time of year.  Nothing says “Merry Christmas” quite like Real Red, Old Olive and Crumb Cake, right?  While it screams “Christmas” to me, it can certainly be used for lots of other projects – I went with Christmas and created this card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP-013Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Everyday Chic Designer Series Paper.  If you’ve followed me for a while, you already know that I’m completely obsessed with Everyday Chic Designer Series Paper – and I’m not done playing around with it yet.  There are so many things you can do with this black and white paper to create your own fun patterns.  I used this scalloped, banner-looking pattern to create a unique background for my card.  With Stampin’ Write Markers, I simply colored in the white areas to create a one-of-a-kind look.  If you’d like to see my video about customizing Designer Series Papers, click here.

  • A Subtle Band.  Once I had cropped my circles and knew right where I wanted them on this patterned background, I marked off the rows I wanted to accentuate in red.  As such, the circles are perfectly centered along this band of red – almost like there’s a thick ribbon across the lower half of the card.  Not only does this help to bring in the red on the background of the card, but it anchors the sentiment so that the circles are not just floating out there in the middle of nothingness.  The white rows on either side help to accentuate the red band.
  • Masking off the Image.  In order to fit my sentiment perfectly inside this circle from the Circles Collection Framelits, I had to mask off part of the image – there are snowflakes to the left and right of the top line of this image.  Didn’t want them, didn’t need them – so I added a little piece of Scotch tape (sticky side toward the stamp) to the inked up sentiment.  PERFECT!  If you’d like to see my video about isolating images on a stamp, click here.Cozy Christmas, Everyday Chic Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP013
