Flurry of Wishes in Blue

I love varying shades of blue at Christmas – it used to be a non-traditional color combination for the holidays, but it’s becoming more and more of a staple for the holidays.  I also love snowflakes.  Combining those two with a bold, graphic card just seems like the right thing to do.  Here’s a card I made with Flurry of Wishes stamp set and four of my favorite shades of blue:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Coloring Flurry of Wishes.  While the Flurry of Wishes stamp set is PERFECT for creating beautiful backgrounds on Winter or Christmas cards, these lacy snowflakes can also carry their weight as a front-and-center position on the card.  Woo hoo!  There are so many ways you an color in these guys – there are so many patterns in these snowflakes and ways to make them modern and fresh.  I chose to carefully color in the thin lines that create each snowflake’s lacy pattern.  Lots of small details, but it was completely do-able.  I stared at the pointed tip of each part and pulled the brush of my Stampin’ Write Maker back toward me – felt like I could control the pen best that way.

  • Coloring Technique.  Despite the careful (and somewhat tedious coloring), this card was relatively easy to execute.  I stamped the snowflakes on the white cardstock with Archival Basic Black ink and positioned the panel over the 1-1/4″ wide strips of cardstock.  Starting with the lighter colors and working my way to the darker ones, I stretched a piece of Post-it Tape over the images (lined up with the panels beneath) and colored to the tape.  I picked up the tape, moved it to the next line and simply colored that section like the first.  Simple!  I moved from light-to-dark because I knew that any “mistakes” could be covered with a darker color (but not the other way around).
  • Four Blues.  These four blues create a perfect transition of blue grades from dark to light.  While Night of Navy is a purely navy blue, the remaining three colors have a bit of green in them.  That makes these aquas perfect for icy snowflakes, right?  If you, too like this combination of blues, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
