Suite Sayings for GDP-017

After two weeks away, it’s great to be back with a fun challenge from the Global Design Project.  Yippee!  With all the excitement and participation over at the GDP, you’ve really helped to make 2015 a special year.  We’ve got a lot of fun challenges scheduled this year, too, so hang on to your hat.  It’s going to be a great year.

The first color challenge of 2016 includes three colors that are featured in Stampin’ Up!’s Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack – Garden Green, Rose Red and Crumb Cake.  Perfect for Valentine’s Day, don’t you think?  Here’s my simple-and-streamlined card:

And here’s the Global Design Project color combination that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • One Pattern, Two Colors. The etched patterns used for the backdrop of this card are from Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper – since the same pattern is offered in Garden Green and Crumb Cake, it seems I had an easy time knocking out two of my three colors.  🙂  I just love these little patterns – they seem like the tick-marks you might find in a jail cell for someone who’s counting down the days (perhaps there’s a really romantic criminal who can’t wait to be reunited with his love?).  Because the patterns are the same, they were easy to line-up perfectly from one piece to the other.
  • Build-a-Circle.  It seems that this sentiment from Suite Sayings would fit perfectly inside an oval, but you know how much I love my white space and how much I love to layer with perfect borders.  It also turned out this oval-shaped sentiment fit perfectly inside one of the circles from the Circles Collection Framelits.  I bordered it with a 2-1/2″ Circle punch of Rose Red and followed that with a Crumb Cake circle from the Circles Collection Framelits.  In the end, the sentiment mirrored the layering on the base of the card.  Fun!
  • Suite Sayings.  I can’t say it enough as my love for Suite Sayings is evident by how much I use it.  The sentiments are fun, fresh and versatile.  This stamp set should be #1 on your list for the 2016 Occasions Catalog, which launches TOMORROW.  I couldn’t be more excited for you to get your hands on this awesome stamp set and the other goodies available to you in the amazing catalog.

  4. WOW! You have a knack for highlighting features that I would overlook and make me consider something I otherwise would not. I thought of this paperstack as too frilly/flowery/feminine to be versatile enough for me to buy. This post made me go to the catalog and search for the patterns you used. In the process I noticed several other patterns that could be neutral. You’re making my decisions on what to buy more difficult! Thanks for the inspiration.

  5. Awesome card, Brian! Love the rose red color!
