Love You for GDP-018

Love is in the air – that means it’s a great time to plan Valentine’s cards for our friends and loved ones.  While we are on the subject of love…I love this week’s sketch for the Global Design Project – L. O. V. E.  Teneale Williams created a circle inside a rectangle with sentiments that overlap both.  How fun is that?  Here’s my Design Team card for this week’s challenge:

Words of Truth, Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP-018, Valentine's Day card

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP018Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Lining it Up.  There’s not a lot of stamping on this card – the background of this card is made up of two pieces of printed paper from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (the Basic Gray piece is white with gray writing, and the Basic Black piece is black with white writing).  Did you notice how the words on both panels of paper line up perfectly?  There are only a handful of words on this paper, but they are arranged in lots of combinations so that it’s difficult to find a pattern.  To create this look, I started with two full sheets of paper from the Designer Series Paper Stack and cut equal-sized pieces from each paper (the prints are lined up of the pages).  I cropped the circle with Circles Collection Framelits in the Basic Black piece.  Easy enough, right?
  • Little Pop of Color.  While the background is a highlight on this card, the pop of color on the sentiment and the Melon Mambo heart really highlight the love on this card.  I stamped “i love you” from Words of Truth – I messed up when I stamped the “i” so I just cropped it off with the Word Window punch (who doesn’t love an easy fix?).  I punched a Melon Mambo heart with the Itty Bitty Accents punch pack to balance out the sentiment on the strip.  The tiny pop of pink is a great accent to the thick border on the outside of the card.
  • Color Combination.  You might think this card is just black and white card with a pop of Melon Mambo – but Basic Gray plays a very important part in this card, too.  The background piece of Designer Series Paper Stack is white with Basic Gray script over it.  The combination of these three colors come together for a perfectly sweet collection.Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Basic Black, Basic Gray, Melon Mambo

Stamp Sets:  Words of Truth  Papers:  Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (Basic Black, Basic Gray), Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Thick Whisper White  Inks:  Melon Mambo  Accessories:  Itty Bitty Accents punch pack, Word Window punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
