Be Mine for PPA284

Maggie Mata has created a super-fun sketch for us over the Pals Paper Arts this week.  These abstract panels provide a great opportunity to create so many different projects.  While Maggie’s sketch shows a circle popping from behind a flap, I chose to place the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits cutout on top of the flap.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

PPA-284-Jan21Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Artistic License.  OK, so I admit that I may have cheated a little bit by laying my cropped Bloomin’ Heart over the caddywompus panel (instead of under it).  I’d like to strike that last statement – rather than saying “I may have cheated,” please consider that “I exerted my artistic license” when positioning the heart on the page.  That sounds so much fancier, don’t you agree?  Because of the intricate design of the heart, though, the panel shows through perfectly, so I think it fits perfectly with Maggie’s design.  What do you think?   Bloomin' Heart Thinlits Die, Bloomin' Love, Large Numbers Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA284
  • Bucket of Lost Dreams.  Back in 2012, I introduced you to my Bucket of Lost Dreams (you can see the original post here).  When a project takes a sharp turn and I have pieces that never made it onto a card, they are tossed in a bucket near my stamping desk.  The bucket is a good reference for a quick inspiration (why did I crop it or stamp it in the first place?) or for a quick card.  I cropped this Blushing Bride heart during my club meeting a couple of weeks ago and showed them how to stamp this banner with the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and crop it with the Large Numbers Framelits.  Those items sat in my Bucket of Lost Dreams until a new dream was found for them on this card.  How sweet is that?  It certainly made this card a quick one to pull together.  🙂
  • Such Sweet Colors.  I’ve shared this color combination before (or one very similar).  I just LOVE the combination of Basic Gray and Crumb Cake.  There’s something so preppy and clean about it.  When I added Blushing Bride, my heart went pitter-patter, so I knew I needed to share this card with you.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! I hope you’ll pop over to the Pals Paper Arts site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. I love your color combo so mutch and I like your variation to laying the heart over the panel. Your card is great!

  2. Your artistic license just means “you think outside of the box”. No boundaries. (Ha) How in the world do you make such beautiful cards??? The lines are so clean and your ideas on how to place each piece on the card is wonderful. I am “blushing bride” with envy. (Ha ha) Thank you for sharing your craft with us “newbies”. Smooches!

  3. Very lovely card. I also like the term ‘artistic license’. Means that we can cheat with no guilt! (Artistically, that is.)

  4. I think no you complied with the sketch perfectly.
Not the same way as everyone else, but you did comply.
    Lovely card Brian.

  5. LOVE your take on the sketch! Just love your card! BTW, Maggie did the same thing as you did by putting her bear over the panel and she created the sketch. 😉

  6. Good Morning Brian:

What a lovely way to start my day. Your card is gorgeous and it’s hard to believe the pieces came from your “Bucket of Lost Dreams”. If that is the result I’m going to start my own bucket and see where it takes me. LOL I’ll let you know how I make out!

  7. I love your colors! I never would have put a gray and brown together, but it’s gorgeous!

  8. Love this mix of “nudes” together. Very pretty take on the sketch!

  9. Gorgeous card Brian, fabulous color combo. Bucket of lost dreams – love that. I keep my bits on the corner of my desk until they get moved to a basket, usually never to be seen again. May need to take a peek in there.

  10. Love your colors together and using the cutout heart was genius!

  11. you are the “king” of creations! and you never disappoint me. absolutely stunning card, Brian!

  12. Love this heart and I think I will get ARTSY and try this color combo . May even try the sketch for variety .
    Pretty !

  13. Once again- Love this!

  14. Sooooo pretty! And simply elegant!

  15. This heart die is gorgeous, any color or design looks amazing with it.
This sketch is just perfect for it, beautiful card, very romantic and sweet.

  16. Great card, Brian. I love this color combination and I think the diecut heart looks better outside the flap than it would under it. I had not heard about your fun idea of the Bucket of Lost Dreams. I like it.

  17. Pink and Grey is one of my favorite color combos. So chic and sophisticated! I always wondered if I was the only one to keep a “bucket of lost dreams” mine is a Mystery Box. I often challenge myself by pulling out an item and doing something with it 🙂

  18. Totally cool switch on the caddywompus panel from under to over … and I am so glad to have someone “spell” that word out finally! Heartfelt thanks to you, Brian … you know … in a bit of a ‘caddywompus’ way from Texas! 😉

  19. Love this card – the color combos are also some of my favorites.

I have a question – what did you use to make the pop of gray behind the smaller flowers? I have used this same die-cut and felt it was kind of naked without something in the center. I am thinking you used a circle punch, but I am not sure.

    Thanks for trying to help.

    • Carrie – Thanks! I punched these flowers out with the dies and then stamped them with Basic Gray Archival ink. Because the stamps are photopolymer, they were easy to line up just where I wanted them. I see how it looks like a circle there, but it’s the ink. 🙂
