Lucky Stars and a Sunburst Thinlits Die

There’s no declaration or government proclamation that requires Valentine’s Day cards to be pink and red or to be festooned with flowers are hearts.  I’ve been sharing Valentine’s Day cards all week week, and none of them fit that bill.  They do have one thing in common, though – they all say that my life is better because you are in it.  Isn’t that what Valentine’s Day should be about?  Isn’t that what every card ever made should say?  That’s what this card says:

Going Global, Starburst Thinlits, Sweet Li'l Ones Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Perfect Combination of Products.  Today’s card features three products (two from the Occasions Catalog and one from the Annual Catalog) that seem like they were made for each other.  I used the Sunburst Thinlits Dies to crop this burst of sunshine from the Hello Honey page of stars from Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper and glued that on top of the Very Vanilla piece of paper from the same pack of paper.  I cropped the pages to line up perfectly – they are close but not perfect because this die left so many pieces to line up.  Add in the sentiment from Going Global (ties in with the stars), and you’ve got a suite of products that work perfectly together.

  • Sweet and Simple Layering.  While the Sunburst Thinlit adds a bunch of “wow” to this project, the layering of the sentiment is the component that really pulls at my heart.  Each layer repeats the pattern found on the outside of the card (thick Lost Lagoon frame, thin Hello Honey Frame, panel), and they work together to pull your eye right to the sentiment.  It did that, didn’t it?  🙂  Here’s a quick diagram of the layers I used on this sentiment:Sweet and simple layering, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Misty Colors.  Let’s all agree that Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey and Very Vanilla are a combination like no other – all three have a misty appeal.  They are gritty and dirty, not bright and vibrant.  That’s probably why I love them so much and definitely why I love them together.  They really add to the “starry” appeal of this card.  If you like these color together, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 13. Lovely card Brian. I think that I would give this to someone that I loved and who was important to me, but not in the heart skips a beat sort of way. Umm, not romantic love, but most likely familial .
