Stampin’ Up!’s Botanicals for You

Karren Johnson has created a super-fun sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge – a simple rectangle that allows the sentiment to take center stage.  What fun!  After seeing that none of the Design Team Members used Stampin’ Up!’s AMAZING Sale-a-Bration stamp set, Botanicals for You, I knew what I’d make.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Karren’s challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sideways.  My super-simple Valentine’s Day card follows Karren’s sketch – in “portrait view” rather than “landscape view.”  I flipped Karren’s sketch on its side so that I could use Botanicals for You without making you twist your neck to see it.  Aren’t I sweet?  🙂  This is totally allowable in sketches – the layout is there for inspiration, not duplication.  The project I shared yesterday followed the same “going against the grain” approach (you can see it here).  That project also featured Ovals – I guess I’m just stubborn like that.  🙂FMS Final 221-001
  • One Stamp, Two Inks.  To create this slight shift of color from Real Red to Melon Mambo, I simply inked most of the top of this sentiment with Melon Mambo (the lighter of the two colors) and then inked the rest with Real Red.  I made sure I created a visible line down the middle that I could duplicate in the background piece of cardstock.Botanicals for You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS221
  • Valentine’s Day Colors.  While this sentiment isn’t defined for any particular holiday or reason, the colors I used inform that it could easily be a Valentine’s Day project.  Perhaps it could be given along with a box of chocolate?  🙂  If you like this unexpected combination of colors, feel free to save this:  Stampin' Up!
