Good Thoughts for PPA286

My dear friend, Linda Callahan, is the Featured Designer on the Pals Paper Arts this week.  She has created a wonderfully simple sketch that is sure to inspire lots of great cards.  I love Linda’s clean and simple style, so it makes sense that I’d be crazy about the sketch she created, huh?  Well, I AM crazy about her sketch.  Here’s my card for this week’s PPA Sketch Challenge:

Perfect Pennants, Botanical Blooms Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA286

And here’s the banner for Linda’s Sketch Challenge that inspired my card:

PPA-286-Feb04Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Products Used.  Rather than bore you with a long write-up of all the products I used to create this card, I decided to make a graphic that’s easy to see and easy to save.  Perfect Pennants, Botanical Blooms Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA286Clearly, the star of this card is the Botanical Blooms Designer Series Paper – I used it for the dark backdrop and the sweet Hello Honey panels.  What great colors and patterns!  All of these products come together perfectly to honor Linda’s wonderful sketch.
  • Finding Balance.  I love the placement of the stripes in Linda’s sketch.  Once I had my panels in place and my strips glued down, though, something was missing.  Things were slightly out of balance.  I added a tiny Mint Macaron flower (with a Cajun Craze Candy Dot) to the top, left corner of the sentiment panel to balance things out.  Not only does the flower cut into the black space a bit, but the Mint Macaron balances the thick strip of Mint Macaron.  Shapes – check.  Colors – check.  Tiny flower saves all.
  • Color Combination.  I pulled these colors from a beautiful page from Botanical Blooms Designer Series Paper.  With a Basic Black background, the paper features tiny Cajun Craze, Hello Honey, Mint Macaron and Mossy Meadow flowers.  These little flowers pop against the dark background – seems like a wonderful piece for a “thinking of you” card, right?  I would have never paired these colors without this paper, but they are pretty spectacular together.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
