Make a Wish for GDP022

Can you believe we are in week 22 for the Global Design Project?  GDP still feels so fresh and brand new – yet we are 22 weeks old.  How awesome!  I love that so many people are playing along with our challenges – the artistry is just amazing!  This week’s sketch leaves the playing field wide open – some panels, an object (doesn’t have to be a circle) and a band.  With so few objects, would it be strange if the card you create looks exactly like another?  More on that later.

Here’s the card I created for this week’s sketch challenge:

Party Wishes, It's My Party Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP022

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP022

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Party Wishes.  When I first saw the 2016 Occasions Catalog, I was really excited about the super-fun Party Wishes stamp set.  The sentiments in this set are fun, festive and fabulous.  For today’s project I used “make a wish” and masked out all the confetti on the stamp with tape.  I then added the six candles on top of the sentiment to make it adorably festive.  Who doesn’t love to festoon a wish with candles?!  These images look great stamped in Basic Black on this piece of Crushed Curry paper from It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack.

  • Classy Color Combination.  Even with so many gorgeous colors to choose from in the paper stack, it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to limit my colors to Basic Black, Crushed Curry and Whisper White.  They just look so clean and crisp together.  Who wouldn’t want to celebrate in style with these colors?  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! • Copycat?  I was so happy with this card when I completed it last week.  “What a unique card!” I said to myself as I finished it and snapped my pictures for this week’s post.  So clean and simple, yet so unique.  That’s when Kylie Bertucci’s blog post for the day rolled across my screen and I saw this:  It's My Party Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, by Kylie BertucciDum, dum, dum.  (that’s the dramatic music from a soap opera).  Here’s what’s super-fun – we both created our cards independent of one another.  We chose some of the same papers and maintained the same color scheme, and the cards look very similar.  Since mine was for a challenge that was not live, I had to sit on mine for a week.  Cards can look so similar when we are all using the same products – yet each one is so unique.  Isn’t that crazy?  I guess you could safely say Kylie has an AMAZING sense of style and makes INCREDIBLE cards.  🙂

  1. Great. I love the color combination ❤︎

  2. I still can’t get over it Brian! Like how did this happen??? Did I enter your brain or did you enter mine?? Your message you sent through like seconds after my blog post went live was HILARIOUS. I thought a major disaster had occurred! No, not a major disaster – just Kylie had stolen Brian’s card from his BRAIN and conveniently blogged it first.

  3. Well they say great minds think alike! The colour combo is very striking!

  4. Great card Brian ! I love these colors !

  5. It is funny how that works out sometimes. Both cards are great and give us options on how to use the same colors in similar ways. Like others have said, I really like this color combo.

  6. The sentiment stamped on patterned paper is simply yummy!

  7. So, I am officially in love! This card is amazing! You’re Kylie Brain or Kylie’s Brian Brain did a fabulous job!!! I will definitely be CASTing this one ?

  8. Love the color combinations and DSP you chose. Very clean and handsome!

  9. You two have obviously been spending to much time together in the blogosphere! Great minds think alike!

  10. Hi Brian, love your card for this weeks challenge. I am not a big fan of yellow/lemon but this works so well together. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to give it a go.

  11. Great colour combi and card! And how fantastic you and Kylie had a similar idea 🙂

  12. And Connie went with the same colour scheme too! Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo (theme from some supernatural spooky show I can’t remember the name of). Collective consciousness? Whatever it is Brian, your card is fabulous! Xoxo

  13. SNAP! Haha! Too funny! Love your card Brian … love Kylie’s too! xxx

  14. I love the colours and how funny that you and Julie were card twins this week!!

  15. I love this, I very rarely use the ‘orange’ colours from stampin up, as orange is not a colour I enjoy working with. I guess I need to just go with it as this is just lovely.
