Thanks for Being You for PPA287

Katy McGloin is the Featured Designer over at Pals Paper Arts this week, and she’s has chosen a wonderful combination of colors that’s sure to fill the gallery with gorgeous cards.  What’s not to love about Lost Lagoon, Old Olive and Calypso Coral?  My first instinct was to reach for the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper – I knew that at least two of these colors were in those gorgeous patterns – and I’m glad I did.  Here’s my card:Suite Sayings, Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, PPA287

And here’s the banner for Katy’s fun color challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Pretty Petals.  Please don’t forget about Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper.  Yes, it was released last summer with the Annual Catalog, but this is a WONDERFUL time of year to buy it (or pull it out) and use it.  The colors are fresh, and the patterns are sweet.  I’ve really enjoyed using this paper – one of my all-time favorite cards (it can be seen here) uses this paper.  With dark and light patterns, the options are endless.

  • Breaking Up.  I’ve said it over and over – and you can’t make me stop.  I absolutely love the variety of beautiful sentiments in Suite Sayings, a new stamp set in the 2016 Occasions Catalog.  One of my favorites says “thanks for being you.”  What a wonderful thing to say to someone!  I masked off the sentiment and broke it into two pieces (just a little tape can do the trick) – and I love how it looks side by side.  There are endless options for creating unique sentiments with these sets.Suite Sayings, Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, PPA287
  • Added Border.  I tried pulling Old Olive and Calypso Coral into the frames of the sentiment and card base, but they just seemed to fight with the base.  In the end, I decided that green or coral pulled from the beauty of the central panel of Designer Series Paper, so I let Lost Lagoon do all the work.  I added a thin layer of Very Vanilla between layers of Lost Lagoon to perfectly frame the panel of paper.  Just what I wanted!

I hope you’ll pop over to the Pals Paper Arts site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  7. So very doable and perfect Brian. One of my favorite DSP’s. The white framing makes it look like a picture frame, cool.

  8. Glad you used the Lost Lagoon as your base layer for this card and I think there was just the right amount of Calypso Coral and Old Olive so as not to be overwhelming. Very, very pretty indeed and it’s also nice to see a card using all those wonderful SU punches that I have. Sometimes I think they get forgotten with all the framelits that are available.

  9. Love the pretty pattern and how you isolated the “thanks” sentiment into two.

  10. Thanks for the great inspiration. I have this paper stack and now another reason to use it. Very nice card.

  11. Oh, that is wonderful. I need to make a card for my neighbor who had a stroke. This will be perfect to CASE. I just bought the 2″ circle punch and that paper stack has not seen the light of day since I bought it. I love the mating on this. Now, off to find the right sentiment to fit the circle! Thanks for another fantastic idea Brian!

  12. Stunning Brian! The decision to limit the border color was spot on, perfectly highlights the gorgeous DSP.

  24. Wonderful card Brian – Congratulations! This project is one of my most popular pins this week and is being highlighted on my blog today. Thanks for sharing. Kylie xx

  25. I totally forgot about THIS DSP! Love the layering too!

  26. Love your card! Your layering sets your cards apart from the rest. Would you mind sharing the measurements for this card so others could have your success? Thank you for your consideration. I am a demonstrator and would love be to case your card.

    • Mary, Thanks for your comment. I don’t have this card any more, so I’m going to take a stab at it. The base is a standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. The next layer is likely 4″ x 5-1/4″. Each layer after that is cropped to be 1/8″ less than the previous, so 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ and 3-3/4″ x 5″. I hope that helps.

  27. This card makes me smile! 🙂
