I always love the “CASE the Designer” challenges at thse Global Design Project. It’s always such an honor to pay homage to fellow designers and friends. While I’ve not met Michelle Last, a super-talented and successful demonstrator in the UK, I’ve developed a great online friendship with her. I’m excited that I can CASE one of Michelle’s cards for this week’s challenge. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for this week’s Global Design Project challenge that features Michelle Last’s beautiful card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- The Layout. I adore the layout of Michelle’s card – while we cN CASE the colors, stamp sets, papers, layout, theme (the list goes on), I am most intrigued by the layout of Michelle’s card. The panel that drapes over the top, left of the card intrigues me so I couldn’t wait to recreate it in my own visions. Like Michelle’s card, I used a panel of gorgeous Designer Series Paper for the background and a fun focal image on the panel. I placed my sentiment at the base of the panel – I rounded the corners with my Project Life Corner punch – I love how that small change can make such a difference in my card.
- Sweet Cherry on Top. I just love this ice cream cone from Honeycomb Happiness – one of the items you can earn with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration. I stamped two scoops of ice cream on Mint Macaron cardstock and this speckled pattern from Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper and stacked them high. What fun! It’s a small element on this card, but it plays a big role. I stamped the tiny, smiley-faced cherry from Cupcake Party and punched it with the Cupcake Builder punch. He adds a little whimsy to this sweet and sophisticated card.
- Mint Chocolate Chip. I have fallen in love with Mint Macaron. I initially set out to create a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone, but I found that wasn’t necessary if I surrounded the ice cream with the right colors. I love the warmth of Mint Macaron, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso – just so sweet. If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:
Stamp Sets: Honeycomb Happiness, Cupcake Party Papers: Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Mint Macaron, Whisper White Inks: Early Espresso, Real Red Accessories: Project Life Corner punch, Cupcake Builder punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s CASE the Designer challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian
I love this card! It definitely reminds me of mint chocolate chip. I love the high stack of scoops using the solid and patterned mint macaron paper. You are so talented.
Thanks, Tina. What a wonderful compliment! I’m glad you like my card. 🙂
Super card in perfect Ice Cream Colours Brian and I cannot wait to get to know you better on the Cruise and in person 😉
Michelle – I had wonderful inspiration for this card. I look forward to hanging out with you, too!
Yummy layout and simple design right down to the cherry on top!
Thanks, Mary! I appreciate you.
Brian your ice cream cone looks so delicious, and Michelle’s layered layout is fun.
Thanks, Katrina. I had fun with this sketch – glad you like it.
Love how you rounded the corners just on the bottom. This is a great card. Good take on Michelle’s design.
Thanks, Dianne. Sometimes the little touches make a difference. Michelle’s card offered great inspiration.
I like the stacked scoops and using the polka dots broke up the MM.
This is a cute ice cream cone image . I haven’t gotten this set yet . I think it is versatile even tho it has that Chick (with attitude) the balloon is a cute one too.
I like your stacked scoops . The polka dots add a pop to the image .
This is a cute set and I guess it will have to go on my list . Everybody has been doing the chick ,but the other two images are more versatile and this is the first time I have seen the ice cream cone used . I like it !
Cute card ! I like Michelle`s card with the Shaker butterfly too !
Thanks, Sonny! I love when things “go on [your] list” – makes me happy because I know how much you’ll enjoy them. Please send me a list of all the things you don’t have, and I’ll focus on those from now on. 🙂
As you can see I ran into a tech glitch and had to start over ….therefore two comments resulted ….Oh well …it`s Monday !!
I wondered…but it’s all good. 🙂
Love your take on Michelle’s card Brian. From the colour scheme (?) to the cherry on top! Xoxo
Thanks, Gail. The cherry really didn’t fit with the rest of the card, but I couldn’t help myself. So cute!
Great card, Brian. Colors are so good and the DSP and cherry add so much! Cute card for anyone!
Thanks, Di! I love these warmth of these colors.
Oh Brian – if I were making a card for you right now it would be the card you posted today that you made. YOU’RE the one that is so sweet and I absolutely love that ice cream cone piled high with lip smacking beautiful scoops. You are so right about the difference the detail of rounded corners makes. Thanks for sharing a very special card with us today.
So happy to share – especially when you have such kind words all the time, Grace. Thanks!
Gorgeous card, Brian! Love the colors and the terrific paper piecing!
Thanks, Heather. I do love to snip and paper piece. I’m glad you like the card. <3
Such a sweet card! Those colors are perfect!
Thanks, Michelle. I originally wanted to put chocolate chips on the ice cream. Decided it could be just as mint-chocolate-chippy without the chips.
sweet card Brian! 😉
Thanks, Krista. Always special when a compliment comes from you. 🙂
I love your fearless use of DSP on all your cards Brian! A sweet card from a sweet man xox
Awww…thanks, Paula.
I love ice cream and I definitely love your card 🙂 The Idea is cool and I like the color scheme as well.
Thanks, Janine! It’s odd how these warm colors can look so cool and crisp together, but they do. I appreciate your kind words.
I’m so late coming here Brian but I couldn’t pass the chance to tell you how yummylicious is your card. Love this tall order of Pistachio ice cream, the cherry on the top is double cute. Fabulous CASE of Michelle’s card.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Maria! You have a way with words. Now I’m hungry.
GREAT card, Brian! Love everything about it.
Thanks, Martha. I appreciate it.
I love how you have used DSP in the layers of the ice-cream Brian! The pop of colour for the cherry really sets it all off!
Thanks, Deb. I was hesitant to add the red cherry, but I decided to just go with it. Glad you like it. 🙂
Really cute card. I love the smiling cherry on top and of course, Mint Macaron and mint chocolate chip are my two favs, so you had me at that.
Thanks, Shawn. The cherry takes the card for sweet to cute. Glad you like it. I, too, love mint chocolate chip. 🙂
Brian, I love your card and it was my inspiration! 🙂
Liebe Grüße
Kerstin

Wow, it’s perfect! Great!
Thanks, Steffi. That’s a huge compliment coming from you! <3
Very sweet card Brian! The little smiley face cherry is so fun!
Great card – love the stacked ice creams – i tried it once but it didn’t turn out quite right so will try and have another go.
Thanks, Fiona! I’m glad you like the card. Give it another try – you’ll get there. 🙂
