Bordering Blooms for PPA291

Mary Fish is hosting this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge.  For this week, Mary inspired us with Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder and Pool Party.  I reached for several sets and put them back before realizing Bordering Blooms, a photopolymer stamp set in the Annual Catalog, would give me exactly what I wanted to make a card with these luscious colors.  Here’s my card for this week’s PPA challenge:

And here’s the banner for Mary’s challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Bordering Blooms Background.  While this card appears to be super-simple (Designer Series Paper with a couple of circles), there’s not a stitch of Designer Series Paper on this card.  I created this background by stamping the Bordering Bloom photopolymer stamp set repeatedly across a panel of Whisper White cardstock with Basic Black Archival ink.  I then colored the images with my trusty Stampin’ Write Markers in the three colors for the week’s challenge.  What fun!

  • Taming the Busy Background.  This background I created is bright and beautiful, but it’s also very busy.  Lots going on.  The card needed some large frames of solid paper to tame the busy energy of the paper.  The large Pool Party circle around the simple sentiment and the large border of Pool Party that frames the panel allow this paper to shine while also giving the sentiment a fair chance.
  • Basic Black Archival.  When Stampin’ Up! released the 2015 Holiday Catalog at last year’s Convention, the crowd went WILD for the introduction of the Basic Black and Basic Gray Archival Ink Pads.  These new-and-improved pads allow us to pull out our Stampin’ Write Markers without fear of the ink running – and there’s no messy, arduous cleanup like with StazOn.  If you don’t have the Basic Black and Basic Gray Archival Inks yet, I promise you won’t regret the decision.
