Three Things I Like: Jennifer Spiller

Every once in a while, I love to share cards that I didn’t make (but that I wish I had because I love them so much).  Not only do I love to share these cards with you, but I like to tell you what I like so much about the cards.  It’s tough to narrow down my list, but there are some things you just have to do.

Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to spend time with several of my InKing Royalty team members in Huntsville, Alabama.  Nine of us attended a stamping retreat hosted by my good friend Phyllis Shepherd.  The projects were amazing, and the facility was perfect – but I most enjoyed spending time with “my people.”  Here’s a quick photo of our group at dinner after a day of stamping:

Jennifer Spiller is one of my super-talented team members (she’s in the red coat directly behind me) who I was able to hang out with on Saturday.  Today I’m sharing Jennifer’s swap from the event.  How adorable are these?

And here are three things I really love about these cards:

  • Quick and cute.  Jennifer’s cards are PERFECT for a swap when you have to make a lot of one card.  The background stamping can be a bit tedious, and there’s a bit of snipping, but the cards are, overall, quick and cute.  I like quick and cute.  If a card passes my “need to make a swap” test, then it will likely pass my “need to make a bunch of birthday cards to have on hand” test.  Perfect!
  • Variety of products.  These cards seamlessly showcase three stamp sets without hitting you over the head with any of them.  She’s made each item perfectly necessary to each card – and I love that.  From the circle punches to the Washi Label punch, everything works perfectly on these cards.  Here’s a quick rundown of some of the products she used:You're Sublime, Brushstrokes, Remembering Your Birthday, Stampin' Up!,by Jennifer Spiller
  • Not afraid.  Jennifer is fearless.  There are two things about these cards that make them awesome and showcase her “I ain’t afraid” attitude:  (1) she used bold, bright Christmas colors on TWO cards that don’t (in any way, shape or form) look like Christmas cards and (2) she created TWO cards that are perfectly gender-neutral.  Even with all the Watermelon Wonder, you could send either of these cards to a boy, girl, man or woman – and the recipient will LOVE it!

QUICK NOTE:  I find that background stamps (like the Brushstrokes stamp featured here) are easier to manage in wood-mount.  I know that many people favor photopolymer and clear-mount sets, but I like wood-mount for my really big stamps and my teeny tiny stamps.

Stamp Sets:  You’re Sublime, Bushstrokes, Remembering Your Birthday  Papers:  Thick Whisper White, Whisper White, Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush  Inks:  Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush, Archival Basic Black, Stampin’ Write Markers (Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush)  Accessories:  1-3/4″ Circle punch, 2-1/2″ Circle punch,  Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll leave a comment below to let Jennifer know how much you love her cards!  To follow Jennifer or to read more about these fun cards on her Westside Paper Creations blog, please click here.

Brian, I agree about the large and Tiny stamps. If clear is your preference then at least don’t adhere the photo-sticker to those stamps.
