A Sparkly Birthday with Stampin’ Up!’s Metallics Glimmer Tape

Sale-A-Bration Farewell 2016 Part 2 of 2

Welcome to today’s Sale-A-Bration Farewell 2016 Blog Hop!  What fun!  While I wasn’t able to participate in the first blog hop last week, I’m thrilled to hop along with Part 2.  🙂

Wow!  If you continue along the hop (and I hope you will), you’ll be hopping around to 8 countries and will visit 15 amazing Stampin’ Up!® Independent Demonstrators, each with an inspirational project for you to enjoy. Sale-A-Bration ends March 31, and we’re getting ready to say ‘farewell’ to what’s been fantastic Sale-A-Bration of 2016. Currently you’re visiting Brian King in the United States. You can continue hopping by using the list of names at the end of this post.

A Sparkly Birthday

If you know me, then you know I don’t have a passionate love affair with glitter.  While I think it looks pretty in pictures (or inside a glass box), as a general rule I don’t want glitter around me.  Not. A. Fan.  The Metallics Glitter Tape that Stampin’ Up! introduced February 15 for the second half of Sale-a-Bration, though, is different.  This stuff is easy to work with and King-approved.  I used the glimmer tape to create a sparkly background for this card:

  • Glittery Goodness.  Don’t you love this fun-and-festive balloon?  Not only does that balloon shine, but I created a gold and silver backdrop by taping down strips of the Glitter Tape.  Best of all – I didn’t create a huge mess with it at all!  Score!   With just a $50 order by the end of March, you can select this Metallics Glitter Tape – three rolls (gold, silver and white) – as your Sale-a-Bration gift.  Does it get any better than that?

  • A Simple Image.  The face of my card is super-clean (if you don’t consider the specks from the Red Glimmer Paper balloon…).  I masked a sentiment from Amazing birthday to remove a handful of “happy”s – not sure if I can justify that it was a “handful” of words, but I’m going with it.  I then drew a balloon string with a Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Marker – these are sold as single markers, and you should pick up several to have on-hand (you’re welcome).  I then popped up the balloon (cropped with the Balloon Bouquet punch) with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  How easy is that?Sale-a-Bration Metallics Glitter Tape, Amazing Birthday, Balloon Bouqet punch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Grand Color Combination.  What’s black-and-white and red (and gold and silver glitter) all over?  You guessed it!  Today’s card!  The thick panels of Basic Black cardstock (I usually create thinner borders) help to ground all the shine on this card.  I love these colors together – if you like them, too, feel free to save this as a reference:Stampin' Up! Thank you for visiting today!  If you’ve not seen last week’s part 1, you can start hopping that one [here – make this link to your part 1 url]. The next stop on the farewell hop is, Jacque Williams. There’s lots of inspiration to be found in this group – and you don’t want to miss it!

  1. Wow look at your creation…all glittery today. I guess you are the King of glitter now. 🙂 Fab card!!

  2. Great card today, Brian. I love how you made the background with the glitter tape. It really adds a sparkle to this card without the mess. I hope SU puts the glitter tape in the upcoming annual catalog. I agree glitter is very messy. This is a cute, fun card for anyone’s birthday. I can’t wait to see what the others have made.

    • HJ – Thanks! I would love to see a form of glitter tape in the new catalog, too. Who would have ever thought I’d ever say something like that?

  3. Very cool card Brian. Glitter can be nice on a card…but not work surfaces or faces or hands. I’m with ya! Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. Wow – love your card Brian. So happy to be blog hopping with you today! 🙂

  5. Ooooooeeeeee look at all that sparkle! Love it!

  6. AHA! Glitter, glitter, glitter – yes Brian, I know you did that just for me and I am sooooooooo proud of you! Gorgeous card! Sparkling, just like your personality!

    • I just finished going through the blog and WOW – how fun was it to see demonstrators from around the globe! Thanks for participating in the that blog hop Brian and sharing it with us.

    • Thanks, Grace! It wasn’t ANYTHING like working with REAL glitter – I’m still better for it. This is where I draw the line, though. 🙂

  7. Well, if it’s King-approved, I need to give it a try! Love the great pattern you created!

  8. Thanks for the push needed to use the glitter tape! I love your card…and now I need to order some of the red glitter paper that I have, until now, put off ordering!

  9. Hi Brian! You and I are on the same page when it comes to glitter! But the glitter tape doesn’t seem to bug me at all! I was just at a two day training where some of the decorations were *glitter* plastic eggs! The horror! That stuff was everywhere and you couldn’t escape it even when they took the decorations away for the second day. One of the people I was with got some on their face. Another exclaimed “you have stripper dust on your face!”. Alas I may now have to refer to glitter by that non PG name! Lol! PS. Love the card! Happy Easter!

    • We are definitely on the same page, Jane. This glitter tape is different, though. Zero mess. The balloon was a horror to deal with, but the glitter tape was a delight. 🙂

  10. Woohoo, glitzy glam for sure! I love this sparkly card, it will brighten up someone’s birthday big time. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Oh my gosh! Brian I am stunned that you actually used glitter. Hopefully you are still functioning and no worse for the experience! Cute card!

  12. Dare I say it – Brian a glitter convert??? Fabulous card, love how you used the tape to create glitter stripes.

  13. what a great idea to use this glitter tape. I love glitter! thanks for sharing and great to have you in this hop!

  14. Holy BLING! I am CRAZY for this card Brian. I have just the friend that would LOVE this card, I think I need to re-create it for her upcoming birthday. You are just amazing.

  15. I love how you used the tape! Can’t wait to try out your great idea. 🙂

  16. I love all the shine and how you used the glitter tape to make a background! So pretty

  17. Since I’m fairly new I didn’t know that glitter wasn’t a fav of yours and I think that your cards are always perfection personified! Sooooo I’m really loving the glitter card background! I’m going to try that and change up the color of the white glitter tape. I hope they carry it in the new catty.

  18. Insert my bad singing: “Blinded by the light – blah, blah, blah, blah and something in the night” lol
I still love you even though we don’t share our complete and utter love for glitter – and I’m completely blinded by your amazing card. xx
