Sprinkles of Life for GDP031

This week’s Theme Challenge at the Global Design Project asks us to be inspired by nature.  Who doesn’t love nature?!  This challenge inspired me to roll my sleeves up and create a beautiful card that I would be proud to share with you – how exciting!  Instead of creating a realistic image of nature, though, I created a graphic thank you card with a modern, cool tree.  Here’s my card:

Sprinkles of Life, What's Your Type, One Big Meaning, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP031

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP031Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Build-a-Tree.  While I really adore this modern “thank you” from One Big Meaning (I masked the second part of this sentiment with tape), this tree is definitely the showpiece on this card.  Not only does the tree pull in both of the colors on this card – Mint Macaron and Soft Suede – but it was super-easy to create.  I built this tree with two photopolymer stamp sets – Sprinkles of Life (this year’s Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set) and What’s Your Type? (a versatile set that can be used for so many great projects).

  • Too Tall.  I really wanted to create a tall, slender card for this challenge – didn’t won’t to lop off my tree panel to make it shorter.  As such, I reached for my 12″ x 12″ In Color cardstock to create this 6″ x 4-1/4″ card front.  That additional 1/2″ made all the difference in the world.  The In Colors are offered in 12″ x 12″ packets – you get FOUR sheets of each of the five colors.  What a great way to get the most from 12″ x 12″ cardstock!
  • Colors.  Mint Macaron has quickly become a favorite color of mine.  It pairs with almost anything perfectly.  It can be bold or soft; it can be sweet or sassy.  I love how it pairs with Soft Suede to create a very neutral appeal.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Great job.

  11. Good Morning Brian. What a beautiful, soft color combination. The beauty in this card is it’s simplicity. Although there are five layers of card stock, the look is still beautifully simple. It takes such a special talent to make what may be a bit complicated to look easy. Kind of like when an ice skater skates backwards and ends with a slight leap. They make it look easy when it actually is a bit difficult. You are so dang talented. Love it.

  12. Oh love it , love the colors Brian, so. Clean and neat
