CASEing Krista Frattin for GDP032

I adore the entire team of designers at the Global Design Project.  There’s a boatload of talent and a ton of kindness in this group.  One of my favorite challenges is to CASE (Copy and Share Everything) a project that one of the designers has made. Inspiration can be pulled from the layout, the colors, the theme, the images, the sentiments – must I go on?  This week’s designer is Krista Frattin – my super-talented friend from Edmonton, Alberta.

I first met Krista on my first Stampin’ Up! Incentive Trip to the Caribbean.  She and her beautiful family were assigned to the table right behind us.  If you’ve ever been on a cruise, you might know what it’s like to run into the same people at every turn?  You could walk the whole boat and see no one you know – except that you keep ending up in the same place as that one family – Krista’s family was that family (and we couldn’t have been happier).  Here’s a picture from our trip:

The FrattinsSee!  I told you they are beautiful!  Krista’s projects have a very soft and sweet appeal.  Her style is clean, but there’s always something stylish and contemporary about her cards.  I pulled several components of Krista’s card to make this:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card, which showcases Krista’s beautiful card that we are CASEing this week:GDP032I was not only inspired by the layout of Krista’s beautiful card, but I also loved the horizontal lines in the background, the beautifully scripted sentiment, the soft elements to the left of the sentiment panel and the soft colors.  All of these elements inspired my project.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Bold and Soft.  While the gold doily on Krista’s card has delicate features, it’s a bold element on this card.  The sentiment, too, has a bold appeal.  It might be scripted in a pretty font, but it’s quite bold against the soft background.  I love the way she has played soft against bold in her card, so I did the same in mine.  The dark bold stripes make the sweet flowers even sweeter.Watercolor Wishes, Timeless Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP032
  • Timeless Love.  I stamped this little arrangement of flowers from Timeless Love on Very Vanilla cardstock and painted the flowers with Pool Party ink and a Blender Pen.  I left them soft and colored them haphazardly to give them a soft, artistic appearance.  When I snipped them out, I didn’t include all the leaves (there are some that continue on but would have been more difficult to snip).  The components of the image that remain fit perfectly on the corner of this panel.

  • Limited Colors.  I love that Krista limited the number of colors in this card – there’s Whisper White, Blushing Bride and Basic Gray.  This supports the softness of her project – not too many colors to distract the eye.  Love it!  Although I added a little Pear Pizzazz to the leaves of my flowers and So Saffon to the centers, I kept a pretty clean color palette.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
