A Sneak Peek at Swirly Bird for GDP037

I’m having a lot of fun with the new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog (demonstrators have select items we can pre-order this month before the launch of the catalog next month).  This week’s Global Design Project offers a wonderful color challenge – Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe and Island Indigo.  These colors gave me to go-ahead to make a card that pairs the bird with her eggs from Swirly Bird with a beautiful sentiment from Layering Love.  Here’s my card:

  • A Sweet Swirly Bird.  If you have been enjoying sneak peeks from the upcoming catalog, you’ve probably seen a lot of swirls and elements from the dies that accompany the Swirly Bird stamp set – they are amazing!  I chose to showcase the bird from the stamp set for today’s project.  Mint Macaron eggs, an Island Indigo bird and a Tip Top Taupe nest – how’s that for an amazing start to a card?  This bundle from the upcoming catalog is sure to be a favorite!  Here’s a peek at the bundle:

  • Layering Love.  This super-sweet sentiment (“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart”) pairs perfectly with this mama bird and her eggs, don’t you think?  The sentiment is from a new stamp set called Layering Love.  Filled with large, over-sized sentiments that pair with new Oval, Square, Hearts and Circles Framelits, this set is a card-maker’s dream.  One big sentiment on the card front, and you’re almost done.  🙂  How’s that for efficiency?

  • Masking the Background.  The mama bird and her eggs looked funny just floating in the middle of the card front, so I needed something to ground them a bit.  I ran my finger over all my stamps looking for a tree branch for them to hang out on.  I was looking for a background image that could appear real (but not too real because this bird is not a lifelike sketch).  My finger stopped at the branch from World of Dreams (a stamp set that’s retiring at the end of this month).  I put tape over the birds in the stamp, inked up the stamp and then removed the tape so that I could just have the branches.  The bird and her nest covered the gap perfectly.  What a fun find!Swirly Bird, Layering Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP037
