Pop of Paradise for CTS#174

When I saw Nora Noll’s sketch this week at CAS(E) this Sketch, I knew I couldn’t stay away.  I adore the simplicity of the sketches on their site, but this one stood out to me, and I almost immediately knew what I’d do.  Here’s my card that features a new stamp set (Pop of Paradise) and a returning favorite (Petite Petals) in a beautiful mix of colors:

And here’s Nora’s sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Thinking of You.  The star of this card is the Thinking of You sentiment that fits perfectly inside the heart from Pop of Paradise.  I stamped the image with VersaMark (the words are the negative space on the surface of this stamp, so the ink picked up the background that appears white in the heart) and sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Once it was heat set with my Heat Tool, I cropped it with a Sweet & Sassy Hearts Framelit.  Perfection!  The Sweet & Sassy Hearts got a little shout out in Mom’s video yesterday – if you missed it, you can see it here.  Here’s a look at the new Pop of Paradise stamp set:

  • A Soft Bed.  Although Nora’s sketch appears to showcase a burst of shapes coming from a larger one, I chose to lay my heart on a soft bed of sweet flowers.  The Wisteria Wonder (stamped off once) and Pool Party (stamped at full color) flowers are supporting roles in this card but are still very important to the overall project.  I stamped randomly, sat back and figured out where more needed to be.  There was a lot of squinting and head-tilting before I found a balance that made me happy.Pop of Paradise, Petite Petals, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS174
  • Sweet, Unexpected Color Combination.  Cherry Cobbler is sometimes so unexpected outside of the Christmas Holidays and Valentine’s Day.  It’s such a rich, regal color that it’s perfect anytime of year.  For this Thinking of You card, I paired Cherry Cobbler with two soft, sweet colors that really made the Cherry Cobbler pop – Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
