DUDE, Happy Father’s Day

Before I share today’s project, I’d like to give a big thank you to Christine Pennington at Can You Case It? who selected my Confetti Celebration congrats card as her Design Team Member pick last week.  Yippee!  I play for the inspiration, but it’s always nice to be recognized!  Thanks, Christine!  If you missed that card you can see it here.

Until last week, a set of Many Marvelous Markers (includes 38 Stampin’ Write Markers) were the single most expensive item in the Stampin’ Up! catalog.  Rightfully so – those versatile markers are a wonderful deal.  With the release of Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog, there’s a new “Most Expensive Item” Sheriff in town, and this one is also worth every penny, as well.  I used the Letters for You Bundle (made up of the Letters for You photopolymer stamp set and Large Letters Framelits Dies) to create a super-fun Father’s Day card.  Here’s my card:

Letters for You, Crazy About You, Large Letters Framelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP298, CYCI#123

My card was created for two online challenges this week – a theme challenge at The Paper Players and a color challenge at Can You Case It?.  Here are the banners for those challenges that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Dude?  You might be questioning my choice of “dude” on this card – I don’t suggest you call your dad “dude” – I certainly wouldn’t have used that casual term of endearment with my Dad.  But – Father’s Day isn’t just about celebrating YOUR Dad – there are plenty of guys out there who deserve recognition for being incredible fathers.  My father passed away years ago, so this card is for a friend of mine who happens to be a great dad.  While “Happy Father’s Day” would seem appropriate for a card he’d receive from his children, “Dude, Happy Father’s Day” seemed to be the right tone for a card from me.
  • Letters for You Bundle.  As I mentioned above, the Letters for You Bundle is the single most expensive item in Stampin’ Up!’s catalog.  Don’t let that hold you back from exploring how awesome this bundle is!  There are SO MANY great ways to use these letters – cards, scrapbook pages, bulletin boards, yard signs…must I go on?  While it’s worth every penny of its price, I earned the bundle at 50% off with a $450+ order.  Just another great way to save!  Just look at how much you get with this set and the coordinating Framelits:

  • Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack.  This card features another new item from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog – the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack.  This stack of 6″ x 6″ paper is filled with gorgeous photos of nature on one side and coordinating patterns on the other.  This grass cloth pattern created a perfect background for my masculine card.  Click on this link to see more project with this amazing paper stack:

  • Color Inspiration.  The Can You Case It? Challenge was Red, White and Blue.  While I have all three of those in my project, the texture of the grass cloth background (in a mix between Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand) help to make my card less “July 4” and more “nice color combination.”  If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Stamp Sets:  Letters for You, Crazy About You  Papers:  Scenic Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack, Dapper Denim, Real Red, Thick Whisper White  Inks:  Dapper Denim, VersaMark  Accessories:  Large Letters Framelits, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. Dude, you nailed it! I hadn’t noticed the little extras in this set…the comma, the caret, the bracket….onto my list it goes!

  2. Hi Brian, Sorry I haven’t commented lately. I’m reading you every day, but I have had so much of my job (home-transcriptionist), I had to do a speed-lightening read of my favorite blogs. I am actually all caught up now and have one to two days off. Craft table here I come!!!

  10. This bundle jumped right out at me when I was looking through the new catty. I was really trying to justify the expense, I have an e-cutter that can cut out letters…but your card pushed me over the fence. The bundle is going on my list. Your card is awesome for a dad other than your dad. Actually it’s awesome for any dad if he’s cool enough. Great job dude!
