A Perfect Day to be Happy for FabFri89

Today’s card features a collection of camping images that showcase the glamorous side of being in nature – a perfect day to be happy.  There are so many things that make me happy – camping is NOT one of them.  The idea of camping is pretty wonderful – the serenity and oneness with nature is pretty appealing.  I don’t think I’d survive for ten minutes, though, without my laptop and cell phone.  I also require a ceiling fan to sleep – do tents come with ceiling fans yet?  And what would I do without all of my stamping supplies?!  Let’s get back to the serenity of nature…  Here’s my card for this week’s Fab Friday sketch challenge:

Always an Adventure, Outdoor Adventure Framelits, Bunch of Blossoms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri89

And here’s Mindy Backes’ sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Always an Adventure.  While I might not want to live in nature, I do adore the little scenes you can create with Always an Adventure and the coordinating Outdoor Adventure Framelits.  A tent, a bear, clouds, a sign – just a few of the images that you can use to create a perfect day in nature.  Day or night, this set is perfect for the outdoors-man or outdoors-woman (outdoors-person just sounds silly) in your life.  The tent and sign are stamped and cropped with the framelits, while the mountains and clouds are just cropped.  I hand-snipped a curved lake for the foreground of my card.  Bundle the stamp set and Framelits to save 10% – score!

  • Perfect Day.  My card started with the campsite scene on the small panel and developed from there.  As I was admiring the adorable scene I created with the Always an Adventure bundle (it’s OK for me to say that I admired my handiwork, right?), I was concerned I wouldn’t find a sentiment that would make sense.  There were several sentiments that caught my eye, but when I landed on this one from Bunch of Blossoms – “Today is the perfect day to be happy” I knew I’d found my perfect complement.  There are so many amazing sentiments hidden in stamp sets – they are just as important as the images.

  • Color Combination.  I don’t normally include so many colors on one card, but each element on this camping scene deserved its own richness.  The card includes colors from each of Stampin’ Up!’s color families – Brights, Subtles, Regals and Neutrals – not a combination you’d often see.  Here’s a graphic to showcase each color:Always an Adventure, Outdoor Adventure Framelits, Bunch of Blossoms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri89

Stamp Sets:  Always an Adventure, Bunches of Blossoms  Papers:  Soft Sky, Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, Garden Green, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Thick Whisper White  Inks:  Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, Archival Basic Black  Accessories:  Outdoor Adventure Framelits, Layering Ovals Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Fab Friday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Mr. Brian! What a great job, thanks so much for sharing – I’ve a couple of cousins who will love this.

  2. Really the cutest ! I hope there will be more stamp set bundles that you can make scenes on cards with in the future . This is my kind of camping ….on a card ! BTW….you left out my favorite item ….that cute bear ! Card stock bears are harmless after all !

  3. This card really appeals to me! I love the look of it.
I camped out in the garden as a child – with homemade tents consisting of blankets over the washing line 🙂
But here in the UK we don’t have to worry about bears paying a visit (or I would never have camped out in my life!…)

  4. Brian – your color choices for this card are perfect – they make the campsite pop! I like this card – a lot!

  5. Love this card but I’m with you on the camping. When my son was little he asked me once when we could go camping…I told him when he had children of his own. This mom does not camp. But I have since heard of glamping and yes Brian you can have a tent with a ceiling fan and a king sizebed (much more my style, lol) http://www.pawsup.com/glamping/moonlight-camp.php

  6. Love this. First bundle I ordered!

  7. You really know how to start the creative “campfire!”

  8. HI Brian – this is one of the cutest cards I’ve seen in a while. I really love the scene you have created. My idea of camping is the closest Hilton. My hubby used to camp all the time and occasionally urges me to try it. My standard reply is “when pigs fly!”. I do think this is a great set to use with either a Girl Scout or Boy Scout troop. We are always looking for fun things to make with them. You did a fabulous job as always.

  9. Too funny! My idea of camping is at a camp/cottage with indoor plumbing and a bed!

  10. Only The King can make a card with so many elements look inviting and soothing…hats off to you!

  11. I adore your card Brain, and I ‘m with you – whist the call of nature looks appealing, I am not a camper!

  12. This is a really cute card. Brian. I love the scene you created. Scenes seem to the “in-thing” this season. I concur with your feelings about camping. Not for me, thank you.

  13. This is beyond adorable……but you will still find me at the Marriott!

  14. I love this card Brian – a perfect day indeed! It was your musings today that really made me chuckle though – you are a man after my own heart, I am so not a camper either, much to the dismay of my husband and kids!! That doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate natures finest though – just on a card!!

  15. This card is so stinkin’ cute. I generally skip over stamp sets with a camping theme as the only thing I like about camping are s’mores. This is a super project. BTW Brian you forgot bugs, bears and snakes, my top three reasons to avoid camping.

  16. I love that set and I love your card. You are such an inspiration. And, yes, you can get a battery operated ceiling fan for your tent. Or you can just do like my husband and I and pack an electric fan and make sure you camp at a state park that has outlets at each camp site.
