Remarkable You & Banners for You for GDP042

I adore sweet and simple sketches.  Even if I weren’t a design team member at Global Design Project, I’m certain I would play along with the wonderful sketches Teneale Williams creates for our team.  I knew exactly what I’d showcase inside the circle for this week’s sketch, but the colors and papers were undefined until I sat down to create.  Here’s my card:

Remarkable You, Banners for You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP042

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP042

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Pop of Pink.  I am always excited to see the new Designer Series Papers when new catalogs are released.  I love the patterns and prints and am always inspired by the colors.  The Specialty Designer Series Papers always offer a fun twist – Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper offers bold, fun prints in Basic Black, Whisper White and Melon Mambo (that’s the pop…errr, the pink!).  So, you get two sheets each of five designs AND two pages that are are white with gold foil designs.  I love the pop of gold in Pop of Pink.  I used the black-and-white page of small polka dots from Pop of Pink to create the base of this card.

  • Remarkable You – Remarkable.  Remarkable You is a carryover stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Annual Catalog.  It’s a slightly higher price point than many other sets (the images are really large [and wonderful], and the set is only offered in red rubber), but I can say it’s been worth the investment.  I’ve used all of the images and all of the sentiments, and the set has been a go-to for me since I bought it last year.  It’s fun for watercoloring (if you like that kind of thing) or paper snipping (if you like that kind of thing) or just creating a beautiful, simple background on a card (you MUST like that kind of thing).

  • Circles and Banners and Borders, Oh, My!  I love tightly cropped borders – you know that.  The Basic Black border around this panel of Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper is only slightly wider than my typical 1/8″ border.  I wanted the black border around the outside panel to be the same as the border created with my Layering Circles Framelits, so I increased the border a bit.  The consistency with the border sizes adds to the simple feel of the card, don’t you think?  But…how did I choose the circles I’d use for the card front?  I found the ones that would allow the border to flow over the edge a bit – decision made.
  • Bonus – Color Combination.  I’m sharing an additional pointer today because I adore the simplicity of this color combination.  The pink really pops against the black and white, but the addition of Smoky Slate really adds character to this card – don’t you think?  If you like it, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
