Weather Together for PP301 and PPA307

Joanne James is hosting the sketch challenge at The Paper Players this week – and her sketch gave me the perfect opportunity to showcase the Weather Together set.  Yes!  When I set out to make this card for her sketch, I fell right into the colors from my PPA challenge for this week.  While I added a lot of Crumb Cake to the Pool Party, Night of Navy and Real Red combination, they are all present in this pick-me-up card.  Here’s my card:

  • Weather Together.  What a versatile set!  Weather Together can used to create a perfect pick-me-up or a playful thank you card.  Perfect for a wedding shower or baby shower, too!  The colors, layout and presentation of the umbrella can quickly and easily change the direction of the project.  You can even create fun cutouts along the edge of your canopy.  I wasn’t initially “sold” on the umbrella set, but I picked it up, anyway.  Just what I needed for this challenge, so I’m glad I had it on hand.  🙂

  • Foxy Rain Paper.  What’s more perfect than this fun umbrella?  There’s a page of designs in A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack with rain on it.  A perfect match!  I’m fighting myself to not use this paper every day – cute patterns with great colors.  Add in some clouds above (I cropped them with the Umbrella Weather Framelits Dies), and you’ve created a beautiful, rainy scene.  How easy is that?

  • Changed My Mind.  I’m allowed to change my mind, right?  After I had glued everything down, I felt like something was missing.  My card just needed a touch of something different, and I wanted to update it without starting all over.  Here’s a picture of the first version of my card, followed by the final version.  Only one thing changed – do you see it?  Weather Together, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA307, PP301I knew you could find it!  🙂  Just stamping and cropping the center panel on the umbrella on Pool Party cardstock made all the difference in the world – it pulled the Pool Party from the background of the card into the center of the card.  Yay!  It worked.

I love how you explain your design decisions. Makes me more aware of how the “little” things can make such a huge difference in the over-all effect!!! Keep up the great work :0)

  4. sweet card…I just ordered this set and looking forward to playing with it! Thanks for inspiration!

  5. Great card! I’ve got to get busy with that stamp set and Framelits. By the way, I did see the difference between the two versions. The extra Pool Party was definitely the right call!

  6. You are so clever to spot the little differences that make a card go from yeah, to YEAH!!! I love the colors, Brian, and that background paper is awesome! A must have!

Your attention to detail creates some of the best fixes! Love the addition of the Pool Party umbrella section. It did exactly what you said it would. Fun card!

  10. Fun card today! Great fix to the center umbrella section. Nice sketch interpretation too. Have a great weekend!

  11. I so love this card Brian! It says so much with those four little words. Your ability to express yourself with a minimum of words and have your exact feeling come across is such a gift. And, of course, using blues to help express your awareness of someone having the blues for one reason or another couldn’t be any more perfect. Thanks so much for sharing your genius with us every day.

  12. This is fantastic, Brian! And the color insert really completes the umbrella. Awesome colors, by the way!

  13. Really cute card, Brian.

  14. What a Beauty, Brian! Your cards are always so tailored, clean and classic! I actually like both of these. With the white on the umbrella, it brings out the clouds and raindrops more….using the pool makes it look not so nasty outside but still very nice~

  15. Perfect Brian! Love when things come together like this.

  16. Perfect DSP! Sweet as can be!

  17. Adding Pool Party to the umbrella was the finishing touch. It balanced it perfectly. I love hearing your design process thank you for sharing it. And thanks giving us a double header for the challenge.

  18. Such a sweet card, Brian. The details reflect your sincerity. Anyone who receives this card will feel your warmth and care 🙂
