You’re In My Thoughts – Thoughtful Branches & Morrocan Designer Series Paper

In yesterday’s post, I shared a sneak peek at Thoughtful Branches, an amazing new set that’s currently available to Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and that will be available to customers starting August 2.  I spent most of my weekend playing with the gorgeous images and sentiments in this set – and I’m excited to share these projects with you.  How gorgeous are the fonts in this new set?  Let me answer that question – very!  The beautifully scripted “You’re in my Thoughts” inspired me to make this sophisticated card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Layering Patterns.  These prints from Moroccan Designer Series Paper are just gorgeous and pair perfectly with the beautiful sentiment from Thoughtful Branches.  When layering patterns, it’s important to make sure the colors or patterns don’t clash with one another – in this case, the base pattern is intricate and detailed, while the next layer is more solid and monochromatic.  As such, the papers work brilliantly together – especially when they are separated by that teeny frame of Early Espresso.  If you missed my video about how to effectively layer patterns, you can check it out here.

  • Measurements.  I don’t always share the measurements for my cards (as I explained in this video, I often “saw away at” layers until I get the balance that works best with the pieces I’m using).  This card is special, though.  Because it features so many beautiful layers of cardstock (9 if you counted them correctly), I wanted to share the measurements with you today:  Thoughtful Branches, Moroccan Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, thinking of you cardIf you are still stumped by my count of 9 layers – I doubled up the Very Vanilla oval so that it would be thick enough to not bend during shipment.  🙂
  • Rich and Soothing Color Combination.  While there are several other great colors in the patterns from Moroccan Designer Series Paper, these two pages featured only Early Espresso, Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon on a base of Very Vanilla.  What a perfect setting for a solemn note to a hurting friend.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Lovely card and such pretty designer series paper. Thanks for providing the awesome photo/graphics for the measurements!

  2. Brian, you ROCK! These patterns work beautifully with each other…gorgeous card! And thanks so much for the measurements. 🙂

  3. Great idea for a sympathy card for a man…with maybe a change of sentiment on the inside. Sometimes we need to send those cards and this is a perfect design for that. The DSPs you used really make the card.

  4. Thanks so VERY much for sharing the excellent layering measurements!

  5. Fabulous card. You really have it going on for choice of DSP patterns together…wish I could channel that ( and believe me, I’ve tried)

Ok you are getting another comment – as I am in love with this card for the patterns and those luscious layers. The sentiment inside and outside are so special too. I really like the layers inside as well. I learn a lot from you and your videos too esp the layering measurements. I am going to have to CASE this with the shares I have of this DP. It is perfect for a friend of mine who’s significant other is having some problems and I think he would like to receive it and display it. Well done my friend!

  7. Hi Brian:

Well, you can’t get more masculine then this card for a guy. It is just amazingly beautiful. I also want to tell you that your video is very much appreciated as I have an awful time trying to combine DSP’s. Breaking them up in the layering with the solid pieces allows each to show off their beauty without cancelling out the beauty of the other. Thank you once again Brian for enlightening me.

  8. Ok, you got me with this one! The font is so beautiful, and I have to say, you are the master of layering. Just ordered the bundle! TFS

  9. I have been underwhelmed by most of the designs in this DSP. You may have changed my mind. Using them in small doses they pack a punch without being to much. Thanks for the inspiration.

  10. Whew! What a stunning card and layout, Brian! This can be sent to anyone, for any reason. Thanks for sharing the layer info. My Thoughtful Branches just came today; can’t wait to play! And like you, I’m a “font” person…love the fonts in this set! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Thank you for showing the inside also! Beautiful card!
