Time to Chill for FMS245

Summer is in full-force in Atlanta, so I was in the mood to escape by creating a fun and festive Christmas card.  What better way to escape the heat than with show-bound penguins?  Looks like it’s “time to chill” with my Snow Friends and this gorgeous Night of Navy and Whisper White Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper.  The card is a mixture of beautiful and cute.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snow Place.  This set is one of my favorite carryovers from last year’s Holiday Catalog.  I always had a good time when the penguin or snow-people came out to play last year, and I had lots of fun with them this year, too.    With the exception of the snowflakes, every image in this set pairs perfectly with a Framelit in the Snow Friends Framelits Dies.  There are so many great ways to play dress up with this cast of fun characters.

  • Slippery Slope.  One of my all-time favorite cards is a card I made with this penguin last year – you can see that card here.  When I created that card, I hand-snipped the curved snowbank.  For this card, though, I had a handy new Thinlits Die to help me create this slope without that free-hand cutting.  I used the smoothy, curved edge of the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits (the right side of the Thinlit featured on the right below) to crop the curve on this snow bank.  What a fun way to get a little extra bang for my buck!Create a curved landscape with the edge of the Swirly Scribbles Thinlit, Snow Place, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS245 4

  • Color Combination.  I love the Night of Navy backdrop on this card.  While I love the Night of Navy and Real Red combination (my original idea was to use only those colors), the combination gave the card a patriotic feel.  As such, I added a lot of Old Navy to balance out the red, white and blue combination.  I forget how much I love Old Olive until I see it.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 2. Floral Boutique paper doubles for snow. Brilliant! Your penguin is so dapper!

  3. Such a refreshing card to see during this miserable hazy, hot and humid week. I know a lot of people love this weather and I’m glad for them but I’m definitely a winter kind of person so the heat definitely isn’t for me. I think that the penguin is just the cutest and all the little accessories for him and the cute snowman are just smiles waiting to happen. You have yourself a wonderful day Brian.

  4. What an adorable penguin, Brian…I love the way this paper makes it snow! Great job.

  5. Love, love your snow and the fact that you put the penguin on a set of background papers! Great!
