When a special friend requests a special card, everything in the Fungeon (that’s my pet name for my craft room) is put on hold so that all my attention can be placed on making the perfect card. I’m so pleased with this card that a friend asked me to make for a mutual friend of ours. I loved it so much that I was sad to see it go. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- May Flowers Framelits. The featured flower on this card is a Thinlits die from the May Flowers Framelits Dies. Although most of the dies coordinate with images from the Falling Flowers stamp set (available as a bundle!), I used one of the Thinlits here. Thinlits/Framelits? Throughout Stampin’ Up!’s current catalogs, we see a variety of Framelits and Thinlits. What’s the difference? I’ll give you a hint – you can’t always tell which is which by the name of the product in the catalog because many sets include both. Framelits are the dies that include the basic shape (or frame) of a stamped image, while Thinlits include lots of intricate details that can usually stand alone. In the May Flowers Framelits Dies (shown below), the two images in the top right and the flower in bottom left are Thinlits – the rest are Framelits. Although May Flowers is a “set of Framelits”, I used one of the Thinlits from the set.

- A Cluster of Pearls. I cropped multiple flowers (in Watermelon Wonder, Pool Party and Soft Sky) and pulled the tiny pieces from the middle of the blue flowers to glue into the middle of the Watermelon Wonder Flower. The difference is subtle in the photo, but the petals are Pool Party in the middle and move to a lighter Soft Sky toward the edges of the flower. When I was done piecing it all together, I needed something to grace the center of this flower. One large pearl wasn’t enough, so I added smaller pearls to the four points of Watermelon Wonder around the center. Still not enough, so I filled in those spaces with more pearls. What a great addition to this already-detailed flower.
- Sweet Color Combination. While the difference between the blues is subtle here, the difference creates quite a nice impact. Both of the soft blues play well with the bright and not-subtle Watermelon Wonder. If you also like this combination, feel free to save this:

What do you think? There are so many possibilities for clean and classy cards with these detailed Thinlits. It was a lot of work to finish this card – the paper piecing was very time-consuming, but it was well worth the time and energy.

Beautiful card. What tips do you have for piecing all those tiny parts back together? I have used double sided tape…..is their an easier way?
Splendid color combination! I love how you used the three colors for the large flower. Looks a little easier than that same technique with the Rose Wonder Thinlit. I’ll have to try it.

At any rate…..this card is out of the ballpark. I would never, ever have the patience to sit and put all those teeny tiny pieces together. Of course the hubs says that about my quilts. LOL You did an amazing job with this card Brian and I’m sure the recipient will appreciate all the time and effort put into it. You are an amazing talent and have an artistic touch that few can compete with.
