SNEAK PEEK: Candy Cane Christmas for GDP049

Pear Pizzazz, Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight.  What kind of card would you expect me to make with that gorgeous combination of soft, fresh colors?  If you said, “Ooooh!  I would expect you to make a Christmas card,” then your truth-o-meter might be beeping right now.  While I thought I might try to force these colors into a Christmas card, it wasn’t nearly as difficult to make them work as I first thought.  Here’s my 4″ x 6″ card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Pear Pizzazz, Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

    • Candy Cane Christmas.  Did you see how each one of these images – the star, the tree, the mitten – pair perfectly with one of the colors in this color combination?  I love the sweet images and sentiments in this sweet set – I stamped each with Archival Basic Black ink.  Each of the three images I featured today have a thin line around it, so I used a coordinating Stampin’ Write Marker to shade that thin border.  That further ties each image to its respective color.

    • Other New Products.  There are two more new products included on this simple card.  Did you spot them?  Along with Candy Cane Christmas, I used Merriest Wishes stamp set and Suite Seasons – both new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog.  The patterned circles behind the Candy Cane Christmas images were stamped with a gorgeous image from Merriest Wishes stamp set.

I masked one of the sentiments from Suite Seasons stamp set to capture only “Merry Everything.”  The modern, graphic sentiment pairs perfectly with these non-traditional colors.

    • Isolating the Sentiment.  What a great collection of sentiments!  Sometimes, though, you only want part of a stamp on a project.  I love “Merry Everything Happy Always”, but that’s not what I wanted for this card – I only wanted “Merry Everything.”  Here’s what I did: I put tape over the parts of the stamp I didn’t want on my card, inked up the stamp, pulled the tape off and then stamped onto the card stock.  Here’s a quick video to show that technique, along with a couple of other ways to isolate images on a stamp:

Stamp Sets:  Candy Cane Christmas, Merriest Wishes, Suite Seasons  Papers:  Pear Pizzazz, Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Whisper White, Basic Black  Inks:  Archival Basic Black, Stampin’ Write Markers (Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Flirty Flamingo)  Accessories:  1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
