Jar of Haunts for FMS253

For this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge (a great sketch by Jen Brum), I created a super-simple and super-fun Halloween project that also showcases a sentiment from a Christmas-themed stamp set.  How in the world could those two things fit together?!  Well, this mummy is all wrapped up for Halloween – and he couldn’t be more adorable!  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Jen’s sketch challenge that inspired my card:

FMS253Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • An Unlikely Pair.  The Jar of Haunts stamp set is a perfect tie-in to the Everyday Jars Framelits Dies featured in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog – if you have those Framelits, then you need this stamp set.  The pairing of the two just makes perfect sense.  It’s the pairing of the mummy jar and the “All Wrapped Up” sentiment here that makes me so excited.  How fun is that?!  As I was flipping through “Happy Halloween” and “Trick or Treat” sentiments, I came across Tin of Tags and this perfect match for the adorable jar.

  • Masking the Sentiment.  In another punny nod to Halloween, I masked (oh, hahahaha) the sentiment from Tin of Tags to stack the words on top of each other to fill the space below the square where I wanted a sentiment.  The words are nestled perfectly in this space.  I simply inked the stamp and added to tape to the words I didn’t want before stamping on to the Smoky Slate paper.  Photopolymer stamps make it so easy!  If you missed my video about masking images on a stamp, you can see it here.
  • Sweet Halloween Colors.  While the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper features Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie and Basic Gray, this piece of speckled paper only showcases Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie, so I chose to make Smoky Slate my third color.  It added a gray but was light enough for me to stamp the sentiment on – no extra layers needed.  Yay!  If you like this combination, too, save this:Stampin' Up! 7. Too cute to spook! To think I thought it was fun when I saw the “all wrapped up” tag and thinking how cute it would be on a present. It didn’t even dawn me about the “mummy” stamp and that would have been perfect for me to come up with. Boy, I have been resisting buying these but I might have to splurge. When you started with the “masking” I was already smiling and thinking how appropriate! Fun card!

  8. Super cute card Brian. I really love how this stamp set coordinates with a product in the Annual catalog that I already own. The Smoky Slate is such a great backdrop for the Pumpkin Pie.
