Bunch of Blossoms for GDP053

Gold, Night of Navy and Watermelon Wonder – what a rich color combination this week at the Global Design Project!  I was stumped for a bit.  What to make, what to make.  After pulling some Watermelon Wonder ribbon and the gold clips from the Annual Catalog, I decided to make a sweet embellishment for a simple glassine gift bag.  I reached for Bunch of Blossoms and the Blossom Builder Punch to create a beautiful flower that serves as a perfect accent to pull together all three of these colors.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Gold, Night of Navy, Watermelon WonderTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Bunch of Blossoms Bundle.  I’ve showcased the sweet and simple sentiments from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set on several occasions – they are all wonderful.  Today marks the first time I’ve broken in my Blossom Builder punch to create a gorgeous flower – what took me so long?  I stamped the outline image and one watercolored inside image for six petals (there’s a third watercolor image that matches, too, but I was happy with this look).  I punched them and arranged them on a circle, carefully layering them so they were perfectly balanced.

HANDY TIP:  I [instinctively] wanted to build the image by stamping the watercolored image first and the outline image second, but I found it easier to line up the watercolored image on top of the outline, so the outline came first.  I stamped off the watercolored image to give a lighter tone of Watermelon Wonder.

  • Layering the Flower.  After I had arranged the six Watermelon Wonder petals and glued them down, I punched a 3/4″ circle of Night of Navy for the center of the flower.  I added gold by cropping the stamen from Gold Foil Sheets with the Botanical Builder Framelits and finished with a sweet pearl to the middle.  The gold really pops against the dark blue and adds a bit of class to the fun flower.  These elements worked perfectly together – and I NEVER would have chosen them without this color combination.Bunch of Blossoms, Awesomely Artistic, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP053
  • Embellish and Accessorize.  Decorating this Glassine Gift Bag gave me the chance to work with some products I wouldn’t normally use in my clean-and-simple projects.  I own them, so it’s nice to use them, right?  The strip of Mini Striped Watermelon Wonder has such a satiny shine, and the Gold Binder Clip literally holds it all together.  While I tucked a piece of Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper inside the Glassine Gift Bag, the bag could be filled with a sweet treat, a kind note or cold, hard cash.  I’d take any of those.  I used the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits Dies to create a sweet tag with this kind word from Awesomely Artistic.

  7. Beautiful! I love the way you toned down these deep colors.

  8. What a fab color combination Brian! Night of Navy together with Watermelon Wonder sounded like a tough color combo to me. Of course your flower with the gold center is very striking and you’ve managed to hit it out of the ballpark yet again. Hurrah for Brian!
