Thanksgiving with Paisleys & Posies

I’ve heard from customers and friends that there aren’t many Thanksgiving sets in the Holiday Catalog.  While there are no specifically-for-Fall sets, current products are definitely there to create a beautiful Thanksgiving card if you stretch your stamps just a little.  I used Laurie Schmidt’s fun challenge at The Paper Players (Clean-and-Simple Challenge with a Taste of Fall) to combine a sentiment from Paisleys & Posies with a trio of pumpkins from Spooky Fun and a gorgeous backdrop from Hardwood to make this clean-and-simple card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Spooky Taste of Fall.  Did you see my “Taste of Fall” for this Paper Players challenge?  Of course you did.  The three, sweet pumpkins aren’t from a Fall stamp set – they are from Spooky Fun.  I stamped them with Archival Basic Gray ink and then colored them with Pumpkin Pie ink and a Blender Pen.  The Blender Pen allowed me to apply a light amount of color to some of the pumpkin sections and apply more to others, altering between, for a soft and sweet look.  While almost all of the other images and sentiments in the set are specific to Halloween, those pumpkins are just adorable.

  • Grateful Grays.  Because I started with these pumpkins that were stamped with Archival Basic Gray, I decided to let Basic Gray – often overlooked – define the rest of my card.  Not only did I stamp this sentiment from Paisleys & Posies with the full force of Basic Gray, but I stamped the Hardwood Image on a small strip of Whisper White (I stamped off a couple of times after inking up the gorgeous background stamp).  The various shades of gray (all Basic Gray) are a nice offset to the soft Pumpkin Pie pumpkins.
  • Envelope Flap.  I also stamped the Hardwood background image to the flap of my envelope to add a lovely touch to the envelope that will accompany this card.  Really adds a nice effect that ties the envelope to the card inside.Paisleys & Posies, Spooky Fun, Hardwood, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP313

  5. O.K. Mr. Combine-the-stamp-sets genius! You’ve done it once again! I’m lucky I can remember I actually HAVE a specific stamp set much less remember what is in which one to combine them. How the heck to you do it and I would pay for a video class to learn that!

All goofing aside (well maybe I wasn’t goofing) this card to me is a perfect example of CAS combined with beautiful and balanced. You are so talented Mr. King.

  6. Love how you used the hardwood stamp here! Simple and classy!

  7. Great clean and simple card…love it! Great colors too. Orange and grey look so sharp together and the ovals soften things just a bit. Very nice!
