Boo! for InKing Royalty’s Halloween Hop

Many of my Stampin’ Up! team members (not just those with blogs) share their gorgeous projects in our team’s Facebook community – there’s such amazing and inspiring creativity in this group!  I’m always excited when my team’s blog hop rolls around, though, because I get to share some of their amazing work with you.  I’m just as excited to see their projects as you are, and I am proud to share them with you.halloween-hopWelcome to InKing Royalty’s September Blog Hop!  We are excited to share some super-fun creations with you today!  This month’s Blog Hop is filled with inspiring projects that feature each artist’s take on the spookiest time of year – Halloween.  What fun!  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

BOO!

Here’s my super-spooky card for this month’s Halloween Hop:

Ghoulish Grunge, Large Letters Framelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Halloween cardTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Hey Boo!  Perhaps you’ve already noticed this, but I really love the flexibility of the Large Letters Framelits Dies.  I’ve used them to spell “DUDE” (see that card here) and to spell “HO HO HO” (see that card here).  I’ve even used them to make a worried face (see that card here).  Today’s BOO is a perfect way to express, with exclamation, the most popular sentiment of the Halloween season.  Yay for these Framelits – they’ve really come in handy.

  • World Wide Web.  The spider web pattern works perfectly with these cropped out letters, don’t you think?  I stamped the spider web from Ghoulish Grunge four times on Thick Whisper White cardstock with Archival Basic Black ink.  I positioned the letters over the patterns to maximize the webbiness of each and cropped them out.  The two worked very well together – I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.  The other images in this set can be used for Halloween and other times of year – the brick wall is gorgeous, and the dripping blood can be used as paint.  The gauze and webbing can be used as a fun texture throughout the year.

  • Pattern-Bold-Pattern.  Working with intricate takes a little bit of planning, but it doesn’t have to be difficult.  The front of my card includes a pattern of small grids from the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper and the intricate design of the spider webs over the letters.  Because those two patterns would clash a bit if presented one on top of the other, I added a thick banner of Basic Gray to separate the two.  The pattern-bold-pattern rule works the other way too – bold-pattern-bold is a great solution for dealing with intricate patterns.
