Merriest Wishes for PPA319

My friend, Peggy Noe, is hosting this week’s Color Challenge at the Pals Paper Arts.  Peggy selected three colors for this week’s challenge, and boy do they look great together:  Flirty Flamingo, Emerald Envy and Mint Macaron.  I added a little Crumb Cake to pull all three together for my sweet and simple Christmas card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Merriest Wishes Bundle.  I adore the Merriest Wishes bundle that debuted in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog.  The combination of the stamp set and coordinating Framelits/Thinlits provide so many great options for holiday tags.  What fun!  I used one of the intricately-designed Thinlits to crop the circle with the deer and tree cutouts from Thick Whisper White.  That image fit perfectly over the same ornament shape that was cropped with Mint Macaron – they fit together perfectly.  I simply snipped off the ornament hanger part of the shape for both.

  • Snippy, Snippy.  After I cropped the intricately-designed Thinlit from Thick Whisper White, I cropped it again with Crumb Cake and Emerald Envy.  The idea of snipping these tiny images (the deer and tree) can feel overwhelming, BUT I only had to snip them at their feet, along the snowy ground.  I then placed the cutout pieces over the shapes of the exact same size – oh, so carefully.  This is an easy and quick way to paper piece.  Such an easy task.
  • Repetitive Panels.  The rim around the top of the ornament leaves a thin, white border.  To tie this shape to the outside of the card base, I added a thin, white border around the Crumb Cake panel.  It adds a little bit of repetition in patterns – and I find that pleasing to the eye.  It also allows that panel to pop against the Emerald Envy panel beneath it.  Two for one – win!
