Hang Your Stocking for FMS256

This week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches gives us a super-simple inspiration.  A single banner in the middle of the card.  I immediately knew I wanted to use the Merry Medley Background Stamp to adorn my banner.  The other elements of this card came together as I started to assemble it.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Hang Your Stocking.  This card features two dies from the Christmas Stockings Thinlits Dies that coordinate with the Hang Your Stocking photopolymer stamp set.  I adore the intricate designs in these stockings.  Between the stamp set and the dies, there are so many ways to layer and spruce up your stocking.  I chose to just keep it simple since I had so much going on already with all the words on the banner and the pattern on the paper beneath it.  I love when I have choices – it’s always good to feel that the options are endless.

  • Merry Medley.  I have two copies of the Merry Medley stamp set.  One is used for background stamping, and one allows me to use all of the sentiments on their own.  With the second set, I cut out the sentiments so I have a wide array of sentiments to play with.  This is such a versatile set – and there are some really great sentiments built in to the background set.  Why have one when you really need two?

  • Colors.  I strayed away from the Cherry Cobbler in the Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper to pair these greens with Real Red.  The red in the berries still pops and looks great with this brighter, cheerier red.  If you like this combination of greens and red for Christmas, fell free to save this:  Stampin' Up! Color Inpsiration: Mint Macaron, Emerald Envy, Real RedI have one regret.  As I was talking the picture of this card, I felt it was missing something.  Once I looked at my finished card, I realized what it was.  There’s not enough white on this card.  I SHOULD have created the card with a Thick Whisper White base.  That would have helped to pull out some of the Mint Macaron that seems to be taking over.
