Happy Always with Suite Seasons

I was in the mood for a simple, square card this week, so I whipped up a super-clean Christmas card.  This 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ card features the classic combination of Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green.  I used Thick Whisper White to give this project a pop.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Suite Seasons.  I’m a sucker for great sentiments – I can always build a fun backdrop for a beautiful sentiment, so I’ll take sentiments over images any day.  I almost cried when I saw the amazing sentiments in Suite Sayings (from this year’s Occasions and Annual Catalog) and jumped for joy when I saw Suite Seasons in the Holiday Catalog.  This “Merry Everything Happy Always” sentiment was a standout for me, but this is the first time I’m using it in it’s entirely (I masked off the first two words for a card I made early in the season).  Be sure to check out this amazing collection of gorgeous sentiments:

  • Painting with Markers.  The bold letters on this sentiment beg to be painted with Stampin’ Write Markers.  It’s a simple technique, really.  I used the brush tip of the Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green markers to swipe ink over the words, trying my best to get a single, thick swipe on each surface.  If you double back, you can be left with streaks. Once my words and the bough were painted, I gave the image a big huff of breath (I had a mint beforehand so as to not offend the stamp with my warm breath) and stamped it down.  Suite Seasons, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingGOOD NEWS!  There are several sets of Stampin’ Write Markers offered as pairs in the Holiday Catalog – I used the pair of Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green to create this card.
  • Warmth & Cheer.  The backdrop for this sentiment is a gorgeous plaid from Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack.  This plaid is offered in two colors in this pack of papers – Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green – same pattern, different colors.  I created a band of green and lined it up exactly over the red plaid to create my band.  It creates a nice visual – one pattern with two colors.Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!

  9. Brian, this is the perfect card. It’s not an overly traditional holiday card, but hits a great balance. You used traditional colors, but a more modern approach to the traditional sentiment. Great job
