I’m a stubborn sun-of-a-gun. If you give me a color combination that is 100% tied to Halloween, I am determined to find a way to make it as non-Halloween as possible. Such was the case with this week’s FabFriday color challenge – Basic Black, Old Olive, Perfect Plum and Pumpkin Pie are a perfect combination for the scariest day of the year. I decided to use the colors to make a sweet-and-simple “I adore you” card. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Painting the Palette. The Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack is filled with fun, modern prints and a wild mix of colors. There are some pages, though, that are just Basic Black and Very Vanilla. I picked one of those paint-splattered pages black-and-vanilla pages for my FabFriday card. I knew I could incorporate these other colors perfectly. With a Blender Pen, I softly painted Old Olive, Perfect Plum and Pumpkin Pie on the splotches. Had I used a Stampin’ Write Marker, the ink would have been too dark. I like the softness of the colors here.
- CASE-a-Kit. After I had painted the page of Playful Palette paper, I needed to find a layout that would showcase the paper well. I reached for my Annual Catalog to find a layout that would work for my card. Right there on page 6 is a picture of the collection of cards from the Oh Happy Day Card Kit – all of these cards pretty fun. I picked the third card from the top on the left side for a quick CASE (Copy and Share Everything). See the similarities between this card and mine? What an easy way to quickly create a project – just reach for your catalog. 🙂 Any of these cards in this collection would be perfect for a layout CASE.
- Mixed Borders. I adore the Mixed Borders stamp set. While the set is designed to have sweet sentiments inside a long, designed border, the sentiments in this set are perfect. The fonts are sweet, and the words are kind. The petite sentiments are must-haves.
Stamp Sets: Mixed Borders Papers: Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack, Old Olive, Perfect Plum, Whisper White Inks: Perfect Plum, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Archival Basic Black Accessories: 1-1/4″ Circle punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, Stars Framelits Dies, Blender Pen, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday challenge site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
